Who we are:

The New Comet is a student-run newspaper at New Utrecht High School in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. After a period of recess, the publication was revived in 2016 and has since continued to engage and enamor the student body. This website is a place for the newspaper to live aside from print publications, and for previously-unseen articles to be published.

Why The New Comet?

In the year New Utrecht High School was founded, 1915, astronomers discovered a new comet visible from earth: Comet C/1915 R1 (Mellish). As a result, the comet, alongside our ship, became an iconic symbol of New Utrecht. For decades, New Utrecht's yearbooks would be titled Comet (left) in honor of the satellite.

Early renditions of New Utrecht's Newspaper were titled, The NUHS (pronounced "news"). The New Comet would later become the title of the school's paper, and it has held the position since.
