What are the places that shape who you are? This is the essential question of our second unit, "Places We Call Home." The unit focuses on the concept of home and how the different definitions of home affect our identities and who we become as we grow. The long read for the unit is Enrique's Journey by Sonia Nazario, and our short reads include poetry, short stories, and informational texts. The unit culminates with the students writing an original short story: using ideas, information, and examples from multiple texts in this unit, students will write a short story about a character who is struggling with an obstacle in relation to a place.

¿Qué lugares influyen en quiénes somos? Esta es la pregunta fundamental de nuestra segunda unidad, "Lugares que llamamos hogar". La unidad se centra en el concepto de hogar y en cómo las diferentes definiciones de hogar influyen en nuestra identidad y en la persona en la que nos convertimos a medida que crecemos. La lectura principal de la unidad es "El viaje de Enrique" de Sonia Nazario, y nuestras lecturas complementarias incluyen poesía, cuentos y textos informativos. La unidad culmina con la escritura de un cuento original por parte de los estudiantes: utilizando ideas, información y ejemplos de los diversos textos de esta unidad, los estudiantes escribirán un cuento sobre un personaje que se enfrenta a un obstáculo relacionado con un lugar.
