Welcome to my Administration Professional Portfolio!
By: Michelle Weintraub
Building a school environment that feels like a "home" requires more than just administrative oversight; it requires a leader who is deeply embedded in the daily life of the campus. In my career as an educator and administrator, I have found that the most effective way to foster student success and teacher excellence is through a philosophy of Visible Leadership. I am seeking an Assistant Principal or Principal position where I can work collaboratively with a community to bridge the gap between high-level vision and the reality of the classroom.
For me, the word "visible" is the cornerstone of school improvement. It is not merely about physical presence, but a strategic combination of learning, experience, and empathetic understanding. I view visibility as an umbrella that covers collaboration, empowerment, engagement, and cultural responsiveness. To truly know a school community, I believe an administrator must be there to witness challenges and triumphs firsthand. This presence builds a bond of trust, ensuring that the vision and mission I communicate are not just words on a paper, but a lived experience shared by all stakeholders.
A visible leader is, first and foremost, an educator first. We ask a great deal of our staff, and it is essential they know that I, Michelle Weintraub, have walked in their shoes and understand the weight of their responsibilities. By maintaining an open-door policy and being approachable, I aim to ease the emotional fears and stressors that often accompany new initiatives. Visibility allows me to engage in productive, ongoing coaching conversations that feel like partnerships rather than critiques. Through inter-school visitations, professional development, and inter-class observations, I work to lift my staff up, fostering an environment where we can grow together as a "community family."
Instructional leadership requires a deep dive into the numbers, but visibility ensures that data is used to serve the child, not just the spreadsheet. I am committed to utilizing data to create systems that enable the "whole child" to thrive. When a district or school-wide goal is implemented, my presence throughout the building allows me to secure the necessary "buy-in" from staff. If an initiative falters, we utilize the PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act) cycle together—working vertically and horizontally across departments to adapt our strategies. My goal is to ensure students leave our community with the tangible skills and tools needed to pursue any dream they choose.
The role of a principal extends far beyond the school gates. Being a pillar in the community allows me to advocate for the school in ways that directly benefit the budget and student programming. By engaging with parent teams, creating best-practice videos, and hosting family days and PTA meetings, I strive to create an environment where students are excited to come to school. When parents feel supported by community-based programs, they become active partners in their child’s education.
In a school community, every day looks different, and each situation must be handled as a unique experience. However, the constant must be a safe culture and climate for all. Growth is power, and that power is most effectively formed within a family-oriented structure. By choosing to be a visible leader, I am not just managing a building; I am joining a family. I am dedicated to providing the stability, resources, and heart necessary to lead a school community that everyone—students, staff, and families alike—is proud to call home.
