Welcome to High School Admissions!

  • The high school application for students entering high school in fall 2021 is NOT yet open, and no longer closes on December 4, 2020.

    • You will have additional time to apply.

  • Registration for Specialized High Schools admissions is NOT yet open.

    • You will have additional time to register.

  • Dates and locations will also change from those listed in the 2021 NYC High School and Specialized High Schools Admissions Guide for any events, the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), and LaGuardia High School auditions.

Visit the DOE website for the most up-to-date information.

Learn About Virtual Tours/Events

All high schools are encouraged to offer virtual opportunities for families to learn about their schools. High schools will be posting the following information on their own school websites starting in November:

  • Schedule and links to any live or recorded events (or links where families can register for the events

  • Videos and/or other media

  • Contact information for families who want to speak with or write to school staff.

Families can access a direct link to each high school’s virtual resources on the school page of the searchable online directory in MySchools.

High schools are submitting their updated website information on a rolling basis, and we are updating their pages in MySchools over the next several weeks. If a high school has not yet posted a link to their virtual open house/admissions information, please contact the school directly to inquire about virtual events and resources: school contact information is listed on each high school’s page in MySchools.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We hope you and your family are safe and healthy.

School open houses and fairs are an opportunity for you to learn about your school options and the admissions process. This year, we remain committed to offering robust admissions resources and supporting virtual events; however, due to the ongoing public health crisis, in-person events are not considered safe for students, their families, or school staff. Therefore, the format and dates for high school events, as listed in the 2021 NYC High School and Specialized High Schools Admissions Guide are changing.

This fall, we invite you to:

  1. Watch the High School Admissions Video Series | Anytime, Anywhere. Based on the presentations we usually give live at the high school fairs, these videos walk you through how to apply to high school and participate in Specialized High Schools admissions. New videos, including detailed MySchools tutorials, are coming soon. Visit this the High School Page to access the videos.

  2. Attend the NYC CTE Virtual High School Fairs | November 16 - December 5, 2020. Learn about Career and Technical Education (CTE) high schools at these virtual events, which are open to all NYC students and their families. Find out more and register by visiting this page.

  3. Visit schools’ websites to learn about virtual open houses/virtual tours | All high schools are encouraged to offer virtual opportunities for families to find out more about them. Starting in November, high schools will be posting information for potential applicants on their websites. This will include:

    1. A schedule and links to any live or recorded events.

    2. Videos and/or other media.

    3. Contact information for families who want to speak with school staff.

You can find each high school’s website on its school page in the searchable online MySchools directory. High schools are submitting their updated website information on a rolling basis, and we are updating their page in MySchools over the next several weeks. You can also reach out to high schools directly. Contact information is on each high school’s page in MySchools.

As previously mentioned, the high school application and Specialized High Schools registration periods are not yet open, and students will have additional time to apply and register. The dates and deadlines listed in the 2021 NYC High School and Specialized High Schools Admissions Guide—including all application, registration, test, and audition dates—are changing.

Estimado padre o tutor:

9/25/20 DOE Updates

We are writing today in response to questions about what high school admissions will look like and when the process will begin.

As updates around high school admissions become available, we will notify you right away with next steps. There is nothing you need to do right now.

Here are some resources you can use right now.

*Due to the ongoing pandemic, we encourage you to visit schools' websites or inquire about virtual opportunities to learn more about them.*

During most years, visiting a school is a helpful way to explore if it may be the right place for you. It’s also a good way to see how long the trip is from home. Open house dates may appear in the calendar below, but please contact schools directly for the most recent information, such as whether they will hold virtual open houses or information sessions.

More information is coming soon! We look forward to partnering with you this year.
