On June 4th and then from June 14th through June 24, HSFI will be administering the NYS Regents Examinations in English, math, science, and social studies. These exams are graduation requirements and test you on the current course of study you may be taking.
New York State’s special appeal to graduate is no longer in effect. You must earn a 65 or higher to pass the graduation requirements. All students must pass ELA, one Math (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry), one Social Studies (Global or US), one Science (Living Environment, Earth Science, Chemistry, or Physics) plus one additional exam for a total of 5.
During Regents Examinations, you only come to school if you are scheduled for an exam. Plan to show up by 8:45 AM for morning exams and 12:45 PM for afternoon exams. Regents Exams start promptly at 9AM and 1PM and are 3 hour timed exams. After one hour of testing, you are able to leave when you are done. If you arrive late to school, you will not be granted extra time and if you do not show up by 10AM or 2PM, you will not be able to sit for that exam. You will need to sign up for the August exam period.
On exam day, be on time and come prepared with your Student ID Card, your exam invitation, #2 pencils, pens, and a calculator for math or science exams. Get a good night’s sleep too! Breakfast will be available in the cafeteria before AM exams and lunch available between the AM and PM exams.
Electronic devices during the exam are strictly prohibited. Students seen with electronic devices on their person will have their exams invalidated which is reported to the State and recorded in your permanent record. Consider leaving your electronic devices at home. Electronic devices brought into the classroom will be turned off, placed into ziplock bags, and not returned until the end of the exam.
In the testing room, you’ll receive your exam materials and pre-filled bubble sheets. During the exam, proctors will check your Student ID or Exam invitation to verify your identify and place identifying labels on your answer booklet. You’ll sign into the exam on an attendance sheet.
For multiple choice questions, use a #2 pencil so you are able to erase to change a response if needed. For written responses, use a blue or black ink pen so your final answer is clear. If you need to change your mind, put one line through your words or equations. For any diagram or graph, use a #2 pencil in the answer booklet so it is possible to erase and change your response.
At the end of testing, a proctor will check your materials to ensure you have completed every question including no missed or double bubbles on the multiple choice. If anything if missing, your proctor will ask you to go back and complete the exam. You’ll sign the student declaration and sign out on the attendance sheet. You are free to go for the day. If you also have an afternoon exam, you can leave the building and return by 12:45 PM.

Additionally, students who are off track to graduate in 11th or 12th grade will be signed up to take exams.

11th Grade Students not currently enrolled in a math or science that culminates in a Regents who still need a math (Algebra I) or Science (Living Environment)
12th Grade Students will be signed up for any exams needed to meet the graduation requirement.
HSFI recommends that students focus on the Regents Exams they are already signed up for based on their current course enrollment, if a student wishes to retake an exam they can contact your school counselor to sign them up. Please keep an eye out for the tutoring schedule to help you prepare.
As a reminder, sitting for a Science Regents requires students to be lab eligible – satisfactory completion of the 1200 lab minutes. Students who failed lab during the Fall semester will need to participate in Lab Makeups. Ineligible students are removed from their exam sections and are barred from attempting the exam.
Lastly, the Earth Science Regents includes a lab practical component that must be completed before sitting for the exam. Students in Earth Science will do so during their class period at the end of the semester. An after school makeup will be available for absent students. This lab practical must be completed before each attempt of the Earth Science Regents – students retaking the exam must retaken this lab practical.
