These five overarching principles outlined above relate to the areas of focus that are necessary for long-lasting success and change within the school communities that are housed in the district. The MECCA ideology relates to the time period during the 1920s and 1930s when Harlem flourished in areas including dance, art, fashion, literature, theater, and politics. MECCA represents the belief that Harlem Community School District will once again thrive and that the students, families, and school stakeholders will reach new pinnacles of success and achievement.
Families and members of Harlem Community School District explored the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's new exhibit "The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism!"
