What are Audition High Schools?
What are Audition High Schools?
There are numerous audition schools all over NYC. Auditions are currently closed but will accept new applications this Fall. Learn more about the various schools that have an audition process.
Due to COVID-19, all applicants who applied to high school admissions programs with an audition admissions method submitted their auditions remotely this year. Students with DOE student accounts submitted audition files through VAST, our Virtual Admissions Submission Tool, and other students submitted their files via email.

III. Virtual Performance Task: Figure Drawing
In addition to your portfolio works, please submit photographs of one figure drawing with in-progress photos. Using pencil and paper, draw the human figure. Try to use value or lines to draw the folds on the clothes. Include any observed details and draw the facial features. Include background elements to place the figure in a space to prevent them from floating in the air. You may choose to pose a friend or family member.
The drawing should be completed within 30-45 minutes. We are looking to see how you develop your drawing. Please take photographs of your work throughout your drawing and submit four photographs for the drawing at the following times:
A photograph at five minutes.
A photograph at 10 minutes.
A photograph at 20 minutes.
A photograph of the completed drawing at 30-45 minutes.
IV. Creative Drawing
*If you are applying to Art and Design High School and/or Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Art, submit this creative drawing. This is optional for programs.
Using pencil and paper, draw a FANTASTICAL SANDWICH! Use your imagination and creativity – we want to see your wildest ideas of what a Fantastical Sandwich looks like to you. Consider for the drawing: What bizarre, unusual, or creative toppings does your sandwich have? Who made it? Who is it for? When creating your Fantastical Sandwich be sure to include a ground line, background, and fill the whole page. And, have fun with it!
