School and Community Involvement

Through my years at PS 97Q, I have been involved in a variety of school activities. I have served as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, working to promote the concept of "knowing students well" and the incorporation of Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE). I have also been a member of the Building Response Team and the Crisis Team. Upon being hired as a new teacher in the summer of 2017, I attended the Algebra for All Summer Institute, as well as the Professional Development Series throughout the school year. I have served as the fifth grade representative for Teacher's College Professional Development in the areas of Reading and Writing. This spring, I participated in the Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) training in order to further my learning as a special educator. I have strived to improve my teaching practices through outside channels, participating in professional development opportunities through TEQ and ASPDP, and achieving my +30. I have had the privilege of working the BOOST morning programs for both ELA and Mathematics to help fourth and fifth grade students reach their academic goals. As a member of the fifth grade team, I have helped to plan our graduation ceremony, awards ceremony, senior trip, and yearbook. Fundraising for our school and fifth grade end-of-year activities has been a passion of mine. Some of the fundraising activities I spearheaded or collaborated on are the Popcornopolis Sale, Smencils Fundraisers, Build-your-own Teddy Bear Event, School Spirit PS 97 Pop-Socket Fundraiser, Little Caesar's Pizza Sale, and Miss Chocolate Fundraisers. I am proud to have served as a New Teacher Mentor from March 2020-June 2020. I take great pride in being a member of the PS 97Q community. I look forward to continuing my involvement in our school community at PS 97Q.
