Hawaii Layers

3. Rename Lesson File (March 22)
1. Find your downloaded file and right-click on it to rename it. Include your last name first. Follow example below.
EXAMPLE: Hawaii Layers Hooker Martina.psd
4. Open in Photopea (March 22)
Choose open from computer and navigate to your downloaded file.
5. Select Background Layer (March 22)
1. SELECT the BACKGROUND LAYER to make it HIGHLIGHTED .
(It may be highlighted already)2. Notice the layer thumbnail and the icons on the Background layer level:
• The LOCK ICON indicates that the layer is protected.
• The EYE ICON indicates that the layer is visible in the image window.
3. If you click the EYE, the LAYER will NOT be VISIBLE
6. Download The Beach Photo (March 22)
7. Open Beach File in Photopea (March 22)
Make PHOTOPEA Active
KEEP your Hawaii Layers File OPEN
Open the BEACH file. You should have TWO FILES open in photopea
8. Add Beach Image to Hawaii Layers File (March 22)
Click on the BEACH file TAB to ACTIVATE it (if needed)
In the BEACH file, Click on the BACKGROUND LAYER to HIGHLIGHT it.
While in the BEACH file, go to the SELECT MENU and choose SELECT ALL
Again still in the BEACH file, go to the EDIT MENU and choose COPY
Click on the HAWAII LAYERS TAB to ACTIVATE it.
In the HAWAII LAYERS file go to the EDIT MENU and choose PASTE.
9. Add Stroke Layer Style to Beach Layer (March 22)
1.HIDE the PINEAPPLE & BACKGROUND Layers by clicking on the EYE ICON.
2. CLICK on the BEACH LAYER to HIGHLIGHT it
3. Choose Layer > Layer Style > Stroke.
4. Enter the SETTINGS in the STROKE LAYER STYLES panel as shown RIGHT.
Enter these SETTINGS for the STROKE
10. Move Beach Layer Forward (March 24)
1 . Make the Postage, HAWAII, Flower, Pineapple and Background layers visible by clicking the EYE ICON next to their layer names.
2. In the Layers panel, drag the BEACH layer up so that it is positioned BETWEEN the PINEAPPLE and FLOWER layers
11. Change the Opacity of Postage Layer (March 24)
1 Select the Postage layer, and then click the arrow next to the Opacity box to display the Opacity slider. Drag the slider to 25%.
OPACITY DEFINED:
OPACITY describes how much you can see through an image. 100% Opacity means that you can not see through it at all and it is completely OPAQUEWhen you LOWER the OPACITY of an image, you can SEE THROUGH it
SENTENCE EXAMPLES:
I slept late because the light does not come through my OPAQUE curtains. My curtains have 100% OPACITY - I can't see through them.12. Duplicate Pineapple Layer & Apply Overlay Blending Mode (March 24)
1. Click the EYE cons next to the HAWAII, FLOWER, and BEACH layers to hide them.
2. OPTION DRAG the PINEAPPLE layer UP to DUPLICATE it.
3. With the PINEAPPLE COPY layer HIGHLIGHTED, choose OVERLAY from the Blending Modes menu in the Layers panel.
13. Apply Blending Mode to Postage Layer (March 24)
1. Select the Postage layer, and choose Multiply from the Blending Modes menu. The Multiply blending mode multiplies the colors in the underlying layers with the color in the top layer. In this case, the postmark becomes a little stronger.
14. Resizing, Rotating & Positioning The Beach Layer (March 24)
1 Click the Visibility column on the Beach layer to make it visible.
2 Select the Beach layer in the Layers panel, and then choose Edit > Free Transform. A Transform bounding box appears around the beach image. The bounding box has handles on each corner and each side.
3. Press Shift as you drag a corner handle inward to scale the beach photo down by about 50%. (Watch the Width and Height percentages in the options bar.)
4. With the bounding box still active, position the pointer just outside one of the corner handles until it becomes a curved double arrow. Drag clockwise to rotate the beach image approximately 15 degrees. You can also enter 15 in the Set Rotation box in the options bar.
5. Click the Commit Transform button ( ) in the options bar.
6. Make the Flower layer visible. Then, select the Move tool ( ), and drag the beach photo so that its corner is tucked neatly beneath the flower, as in the illustration.
15. Deselect Layers (March 25)
1. Make the HAWAII layer visible.
2. Select the Move Tool
3. Click on the EMPTY SPACE just outside the pineapple (See Read Arrow Left). This should DESELECT all the layers in your layers panel so that NO LAYERS will be HIGHLIGHTED.
4. CHECK to make sure that NONE of your LAYERS are HIGHLIGHTED in the layers panel.
16. Type Tool Settings (March 25)
See RED ARROWS for Faux Bold and All Caps buttons
1. In the Tools panel, select the TYPE TOOL
2. Open the CHARACTER PANEL from the WINDOW menu. (Window > Character )
3. Refer below or to screenshot left for the required Character panel settings:
• FONT: Imbue 10 Pt.
• SIZE: 72 PX
• TRACKING 180%
• Click the FAUX BOLD BUTTON.
• Click the ALL CAPS BUTTON .
4. Click the COLOR Box in the CHARACTER Panel and select a shade of grassy green in the Color Picker. Click OK to close the Color Picker.
17. Type in "ISLAND PARADISE" text (March 25)
1. Click just below the “H” in the word “HAWAII,” and type "Island Paradise".
2. Carefully DOUBLE CHECK your SPELLING. Ask a neighbor to check it for you and check there's as well.
3. Then CLICK the CHECK MARK at the TOP RIGHT in the OPtIONS BAR to commit the EDITS
4. Check the Layers panel. You should have ONE layer named Island Paradise with a “T” on it and it should be at the TOP. IF NEEDED, drag the T Layer to the TOP.
5. Select the Move tool and drag the “Island Paradise” text so that it is centered below “HAWAII.”
18. Select the Hawaii Letters (March 28)
1. Select the HAWAII LAYER in the LAYERS PANEL to make it active.
2. Select the MAGIC WAND TOOL
3. Hold the SHIFT KEY and CLICK each of the Hawaii letters with the MAGIC WAND tool to SELECT ALL of them with a DOTTED LINE selection.
19. Apply a Gradient (March 28)
1.In the Tools panel, select the GRADIENT TOOL.
2. Click the FOREGROUND Color swatch in the Tools panel, SELECT a bright color of ORANGE in the COLOR PICKER, and click OK. The BACKGROUND Color should still be WHITE.
3. In the OPTIONS bar, make sure that LINEAR Gradient is selected.
4. In the OPTIONS bar, click the ARROW next to the Gradient Editor box to OPEN the GRADIENT PICKER. Select the Foreground To Background swatch (it’s the FIRST ONE), and then click anywhere outside the gradient picker to close it.
5. With the DOTTED line SELECTION still ACTIVE, DRAG the Gradient tool from the BOTTOM to the TOP of the letters. If you want to be sure you drag straight up, press the Shift key as you drag.
20. Apply a Drop Shadow to the Island Paradise Text (March 28)
1 Select the Island Paradise layer
2. Then go to the LAYER MENU and choose Layer Style and then Drop Shadow.
( Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow.)3. In the Layer Style dialog box, make sure that the Preview option is selected, and then, if necessary, move the dialog box so that you can see the Island Paradise text in the image window.
4. Refer below or to screenshot left for the required Drop Shadow SETTINGS:
• Blend Mode: Multiply• Opacity: 75%• Angle: 78 degrees• Distance: 5 px• Spread: 30%• Size: 10 px5. Click OK to accept the settings and close the Layer Style dialog box.
21. Copy Drop Shadow Layer Styles Island Paradise to Hawaii Layer (March 28)
2. Click on the triangle just to the right of the "eff" icon on the Island Paradise layer.
(See Red arrow on BEFORE screenshot far left)2.Press Option and drag the words "Drop Shadow" l (onto the HAWAII layer.
(See Green Plus sign on BEFORE screenshot far left)3. Check to make sure the Drop Shadow layer style was copied to the HAWAII layer.

22. Add Colored Drop Shadow to the Flower Layer (March 29)
1.Select the Flower layer,
2. Then go to the LAYER MENU and choose Layer Style and then Drop Shadow.
( Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow.)3. Click on the color box to open the color picker and pick a pink that goes well with the flower
4. Refer to screenshot left for the rest of the required Drop Shadow SETTINGS
23. Download the Flower 2 File (March 29)
24. Open the Flower 2 File in Photopea (March 29)
Make PHOTOPEA Active
KEEP your Hawaii Layers File OPEN
Open the FLOWER 2. You should have TWO FILES open in photopea
25. Add the Flower 2 Image to Your Hawaii Layers (March 29)
Click on the FLOWER 2 file TAB to ACTIVATE it (if needed)
In the FLOWER 2 file, Click on the BACKGROUND LAYER to HIGHLIGHT it.
While in the FLOWER 2 file, go to the SELECT MENU and choose SELECT ALL
Again still in the FLOWER 2 file, go to the EDIT MENU and choose COPY
Click on the HAWAII LAYERS TAB to ACTIVATE it.
Click on the PINEAPPLE COPY layer to HIGHLIGHT it
In the HAWAII LAYERS file go to the EDIT MENU and choose PASTE. The Flower 2 Layer should land right above the pineapple copy layer.
26. Scale and Position the Flower 2 Layer (March 29)
1.Select the MOVE TOOL
2.Select the FLOWER 2 layer in the Layers panel, and then choose Edit > Free Transform. A Transform bounding box appears around the beach image. The bounding box has handles on each corner and each side.
3. Press Shift as you drag a corner handle inward to SCALE the FLOWER 2 photo down by about 50%. (Watch the Width and Height percentages in the OPTIONS bar.)
4. Hit the RETURN KEY or Click the Commit Transform button in the options bar to FINISH the TRANSFORMATION.
5. Select the MOVE TOOL & POSITION the FLOWER 2 layer as shown LEFT
27. Add an adjustment Layer (March 30)
1.Select the Flower2 layer in the Layers panel.
2 Click the Hue/Saturation icon in the Adjustments panel to add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
The changes affect the Flower2, Pineapple Copy, Pineapple, Clouds, and Background layers. This is effect is interesting, but you only want to change the Flower2 layer so you will fix that next.
3. Review how all the layers that are below the adjustment are affected by it. This is effect is interesting, but you only want to change the Flower2 layer. You will make that happen next
28. Apply a Clipping Mask (March 30)
CLICK on the HUE SATURATION Adjustment Layer to HIGHLIGHT it.
Go to the LAYER MENU and choose CLIPPING MASK.
Check to see that there is now a SMALL ARROW on your HUE SATURATION Layer and that it is now ONLY effecting the FLOWER 2 LAYER
29. Add a Border (March 31)
1. Select the Island Paradise layer in the Layers panel, and then click the Create A New Layer button at the bottom of the panel.
2. Choose Select > All.
3. Choose Select > Modify > Border. In the Border Selection dialog box, type 10 pixels for the Width, and click OK.
A 10-pixel border is selected around the entire image. Now, you’ll fill it with white.4. Select white for the Foreground Color, and then choose Edit > Fill.
5. In the Fill dialog box, choose Foreground Color from the Use menu, and click OK.
30. Peer Review (March 31)

SWITCH SEATS with a classmate so that you can review each others' work and give feedback.
LOOK at your classmates WORK and the RUBRIC. Include one COMPLIMENT and one SUGGESTION BASED on the RUBRIC below . Also include your NAME (See example, right)
Make sure your PEER does the SAME for you. Check that the peer review they wrote is BASED on the RUBRIC. If it is NOT, ask them to EDIT it so you will not lose points.
