District 20 envisions a vibrant community where every student has full access to rigorous, real-world learning that amplifies student voice and prepares all learners for success beyond the classroom. We are committed to a future where students, families, and educators work together to eliminate barriers and ensure that opportunity and excellence are within reach for every child.
Our mission is to serve and support every student, family, and educator by fostering a welcoming and collaborative environment. We empower all members of our community to become lifelong learners through access to high-quality instruction and unified curriculum experiences that celebrate student growth across academics, the arts, STEM, and civic engagement. Together, we ensure that every individual is seen, heard, and valued—and that All Means All.
NYC Reads: Year II: Our commitment to literacy deepened as we expanded high-quality reading instruction and resources across all grade levels. A special thank you to the incredible teachers of the D20 Learning Lab and the Curriculum Planning Collaborative, whose leadership and expertise have been instrumental in advancing this work and supporting literacy excellence across our schools.
District 20 Athletics: We proudly grew our athletic leagues, giving more students the opportunity to thrive through teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical activity.
Civics for All: Our students engaged in meaningful civic learning, developing the knowledge and skills to become active, informed citizens.
Save for College Program: We continued to empower families with financial literacy tools and savings opportunities to support long-term educational success.
Assistant Principal Professional Learning Institutes: We launched targeted institutes focused on literacy, mathematics, and school safety, strengthening leadership capacity across our schools.
Program Expansion: We expanded our bilingual programs, specialized programs for students with autism, and accelerated learning opportunities, ensuring that every student has access to the support and challenge they need to thrive.
STEAM, Arts, and Enrichment: We celebrated creativity and innovation through expanded STEAM programming, the exciting Science Showdown, engaging Math Games, and the inspiring District 20 Arts Showcase, which highlighted the incredible talents of our student artists and performers.
Welcoming New Schools: We proudly welcomed three new schools to the District 20 family:
PS 413 Joanne Seminara School of Law and Medicine
PS 331 Detective WenJiang Liu School of Civics and Entrepreneurship
MS 407 School of Technology, Arts, and Research
These accomplishments are only possible because of the extraordinary collaboration across our district. A special thanks to our principals, teachers, and school support staff, as well as our union partners at the UFT, CSA, and DC37. Also thanks to our dedicated community leaders and advocates at CEC20, the President’s Council, Title I DPAC, and all of our partners who contribute to making District 20 the best district in New York City.
