Early intervention can prevent a student with a few absences from becoming a long-term absentee (LTA).
Assign a point person to monitor attendance trend data of a caseload or smaller group of students based on metrics such as last 5 days, last 10 days, risk groups etc.
The New Visions Portal is the best and most user-friendly system for accessing attendance trend data, parent/guardian contact information, report card/transcript data etc.
The RPCA report in ATS, also known as the 5- and 10- day report, identifies students show all students who have ever missed 5 or 10 days with how many days they have currently missed. Mailing labels for students on the 5- and 10- day report can be printed using ATS function RLBM.
For the purposes of early intervention, the New Visions Portal is a preferrable and a better data tool because it enables attendance support teams to identify and respond to recent emerging trends before a student has reached 5 or 10 absences.
The screenshot below shows the New Visions Portal Attendance Student List view organized and sorted to show the number of Absences in last 10 days, the 10 Day Attendance Trend, and Current YTD Attendance for the Chronically Absent Students at CSFSJ (names have been blurred for privacy).
Check out the video below to learn how to use the New Visions Portal with 5-day, 10-day, and/or 20-day attendance trend data to quickly identify students for outreach and intervention. (I'm going to re-do this video to be more succinct.)
