Academics

Aveyron S.T.E.A.M. offers a variety of environments designed around students interests. The Arts (music) is just one contextual zone that gives students exposure to create and manipulate their own sounds and rhythms. Practicing the art of the steel pan enhances cognitive skills, hone memorization/ sequencing, and helps to build confidence. Projects like the steel pan program exposes young children to the history and development of this instrument and connect cultures through music.

Hands On Learning

S.T.E.A.M. provides an authentic learning environment in a highly structured setting where students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning. Students are exposed to the scientific process as a way to approach a problem. They earn sequencing, first-then, and cause and effect in inquiry-based projects. The teaching staff is highly creative and employs varied data-supported methods to enhance students thinking and communication when engaged in a project.

Integrated Support

At our academy, we are guided by data and the mandates of each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Our professional support staff consists of OT (Occupational Therapist), PT (Physical Therapist), Speech Therapist, Social Worker, IEP coordinator, and school psychologist. Our highly trained and diverse teaching staff collaborates to provide the most accurate and up-to-date data of student progress and links families to agencies like OPWDD and C.A.R.E.S. BSCD's Transition Council spearheads linkage services in the 8th grade as families prepare for high school at Aveyron Academy.
