AEL Professional Learning School Year 2023-2024
This series is designed to build the capacity of school-based Arts Education Liaisons, by supporting liaisons and their role as arts leaders in their schools to:
serve as support to school leaders in the implementation of arts programs and arts programming;
advocate for quality arts education in the school community
promote culturally responsive-sustaining education, diversity and inclusivity, trauma-informed pedagogy and social emotional learning within arts learning;
assist in creating collaborative relationships with cultural organizations to secure external online and/or onsite resources and partnerships; and
align with parent coordinators in order to increase family involvement through arts-related workshops, webinars and events.

AEL Workshop#2 2023-2024:
Introduction to Fundraising Planning for the Arts
In this online professional learning session will be facilitated by Candid (formerly known as Foundation Center). This professional learning session is designed for arts education liaisons and a guest, such as your school's parent coordinator, SLT representative or PTA president who assist in school fundraising. A Candid facilitator will provide guidance on the resources of its library and how to use its funder database to partner with communities to find grants in the arts. Discover what funders are looking for in nonprofits seeking grants and how to find potential funders in this introductory course. You will learn the ten most important things you need to know about finding grants, including:
Who funds nonprofits and what are their motivations
What funders really want to know about organizations they are interested in funding
How to identify potential funders and make the first approach

AEL Workshop #3 2023-2024:
Trauma and Trust Through the Arts with Teaching Matters Part I
Join Teaching Matters facilitate in person as we use the SEL competencies to help students heal, create and move forward. In this two part workshop, participants will "explore" NYC by identifying art that speaks to developing their sense of self. Arts Education Liaisons will consider strategies for developing an individual identity through the arts, and activities to support students to be more self aware through various artistic mediums.

AEL Workshop #4 2023-2024: Introduction to Proposal Writing in the Arts
In this online professional learning session Candid (formerly known as Foundation Center) will facilitate and introduce grant proposal writing in the arts instruction with applicable school-based staff. This session is open to all school staff and parent teacher association board members who participate in fundraising activities. It will provide an overview of how to write a standard project proposal to a foundation. It will include:
The basic elements of a proposal
The "do's" and "don'ts" of writing and submitting a proposal
How to follow up whether the answer is yes or no.

AEL Workshop #5 2023-2024:
Introduction to Project Budgets
In this online professional learning session Candid (formerly known as Foundation Center) will facilitate project budgets in the arts instruction with applicable school-based staff. This session is open to all school staff and parent teacher association board members who participate in fundraising activities. This class will provide step-by-step instructions on how to generate a standard project budget for a foundation proposal. We will discuss:
The basic components of a project budget including income and expenses
How to estimate the realistic cost of a project
What other financial documents you may also need to submit with your proposal.
