This year saw the closing of a very successful middle-school cross-country season for School Lane Charter School. Let’s go over how the season played out, the final results, and what’s to come in the future, without forgetting to give our appreciation to the runners and coach for giving it their all.
The teams achieved very impressive results, with both being under the coaching of Mr. Pope, who has been in the position for the past 3 years. Mr. Pope is also an avid runner himself, although not competitively, and after the results we’ve seen, coaching must be in his blood as well. “School Lane was, both boys and girls, qualified as a team,” he said. The final standings saw the girls team finishing first in the championships, and the boys team finishing second in theirs. Both deserve praise and recognition for their tremendous efforts.
Let’s go back to the start of the season. In the beginning of the year, the middle-school cross-country team was open for all students to join. In the words of Mr. Pope, his motivation to students for joining was, “Boys, we have a title to defend. Girls, we have to get a title.” Practices were held 2-3 days a week, and it included building endurance for distance running, strategies (such as for the start, running uphill, etc.), and overall developing strength and conditioning.
All in all, I think we can all agree that the hard work has paid off. Coach Pope has now brought home several Champonship seasons in a row, and the diligence and perserverance of the runners cannot be understated. Congratulations to the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association's Fall 2023 Varsity Girls Cross Country Champions- School Lane Charter!!
