The boy's soccer team's first game was September 13, 2023. It was an away game against Foundation Collegiate. It started with some ups and downs, but The Foundation Collegiate gave the SLCS soccer team a lot of teaching and redos because some people on the SLCS team didn’t know how to throw the ball properly. The game was an upset that ended in a loss for the School Lane Lions, 0-3.
After that game Mr. Meehan made changes to the team, knowing that the team needed a lot of practice. Coach Meehan started with the basics- the rules, penalties, and simple dribbling drills.
On September 14, 2023, the boy's soccer team had a home game against Girard College. The game started off well, as the team incorporated some changes to their playing style. The game was a back-and-forth game; by half time the score was 3-3. It was a very physical game, with slides and shoves. The players improved their play dramatically thanks to the changes coach Meehan implemented.
On September 15, 2023, the boys had a game against Community Academy at home. After 2 losses the boys were looking for their first win, with all the new changes that have been in play. They switched to a new formation which is a 4-4-2 (4 defenders, 4 midfielders, and 2 strikers). This new formation seemed to make a difference, as the team had their first win.
On one hand, the team is doing a lot better since their first game. They are starting to play as a team and communicate more. The downside is that they are still losing their games; they just are not able to pull through and take the win. As of October 17, the record is 2-7-4 for the season.
