I was honored to have the opportunity to sit down with high school senior, Morgan Hicks, in this special interview as she prepares to start a new chapter in her life. I've had the pleasure of knowing Morgan for the past four years. Morgan is an amazing individual with a bubbly and thoughtful personality. Our friendship has blossomed over the years, and I've come to admire her confidence and determination. Hicks has spent the last four years navigating the difficult high school environment, confronting many academic and personal milestones, and now, as she gets ready to graduate, she is here to look back on her experience.
We’ll look into the lives, struggles, victories, and dreams of this senior as she gets ready to say goodbye to her high school years. As she leaves the halls of high school and enter the big world that awaits her, we hope to capture the essentials of this important change in her life through this interview.
Morgan’s Interview:
SC: To start off with personal questions, What is your biggest goal or dream in life?
MH: I wanna be super financially stable, that is my biggest dream. I don't want to be uncomfy, I wanna be able to support myself and my family because I want cats but I don't know if I'll be able to have kids.
SC: What's your proudest accomplishment?
MH: I think we all know this one, My proudest accomplishment is beating cancer. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when I was 15, a week before my first day of freshman year. I underwent three months of intense chemotherapy, from August 2020- November 2020 and had 5 surgeries. As of now, I am 2 years cancer free and will be 3 years cancer free in November.
SC: What do you enjoy the most about school?
MH: I don't really enjoy anything academically about school, I more so enjoy the people.
SC: Who is a friend you know you can count on in school?
MH: I think I have a core three, Samara, Vanessa, and Aidan. This is who I look forward to seeing the most because I have most of my classes with those guys.
SC: What is the best school project or lesson you can remember?
MH: I would say the best school project that I've done is my personal project. I raised money then I put together care packages for kids at CHOP that are going through chemo. A lesson I can remember from my history teacher is that she taught me how to save money. I don't know how to do that but, I did keep it in my brain. She said she wanted to buy a coat when she was little and would only ever spend half of her money so that she always had money. So if she wanted something but it cost more she wouldn't get it until she had double that so she could get it and still have half her money.
SC: Where do you see yourself after high school?
MH: After highschool I wanna go to school for something like child development, child education so I can get a bachelors and work at CHOP being a child life specialist for cancer kids, only them.
SC: What has this school taught you about yourself?
MH: I think this school has taught me that i need to work on my time management because they give a lot of work.
SC: How do you want your classmates to remember you?
MH: I want my classmates to remember me as nice because everyone says that I'm mean but I really don't even think that I'm mean. I think that I can be nice, I literally can be nice, I am nice.
