Dear sophomores, I am messaging/warning you about the eleventh grade. It’s the hardest yet because more is expected of you, but it’s not that bad. Choose your classes wisely, you can challenge yourself or stick to what you can handle. DP is difficult but not impossible. Some people think full DP isn’t worth it, some power through it. You can choose to take the DP classes or not though, which gives you a lot of freedom to pick courses you think will be interesting. A warning: some classes are NOT what you expect, that could mean it's better or worse than you think.
In August, I was ready to put in my all for every single class but then I got hit with an asteroid of assignments. Some teachers could introduce the hardest concept you’ve ever seen in all your school career and they’ll say, “this is the easiest lesson of the year”. There are times where you’ll feel in a hole of despair and times when you’ll think it’s not that bad. If you don’t already, keep your grades up, this is when it really matters. All you think about is your future and what to do to get there. You want to leave early like the seniors, you want to blow through every assignment, you want to crash every Friday because the week has been a century long academic great depression. The weekend always seems far away and they go by in the blink of an eye.
This year is fun though. We have the lock-in, prom, some courses have a lot of movies, and you get some respect from administrators. You get some level of independence because you’re almost an adult. Some students had some input on advice and thoughts to get you through your junior year:
Good luck, sophomores, you might need it…
