For this article, I decided to go on an adventure and try Hello Fresh’s recipes and review them. I chose to do Hello Fresh when they sent me a coupon for the meal service. Here is my review and thoughts on Hello Fresh’s recipe, ease, taste, customer service and cost.
Ingredients -
1 Tomato
2 long scallions
1.5 tablespoon sourcream
1 unit tex mix paste
6 unit flour tortillas
1 bell pepper
1 Lime
10 ounces ground beef
1 tablespoon southwest spice blend
1 unit tomato past
1/2 cup mexican cheese blend
Salt , pepper, cooking oil
Step 1 - Adjust the rack of your oven to the top position and preheat the oven to 475 degrees. Wash and dry produce. Dice tomato. core, deseed, and diced green pepper. Trim and thinly slice scallions. Quarter lime.
Step 2 - In a small bowl, combine tomato, scallions, a drizzle of oil, and juice from one lime wedge. Season with salt and pepper. In a separate small bowl, combine sour cream with lime juice to taste. Add 1 tsp of water at a time until the mixture reaches a drizzling consistency. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 3 - Heat a drizzle of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add green pepper, salt, and pepper; cook until just softened,about 3-4 minutes. Transfer to a third small bowl. Add another drizzle of oil to the same pan. Add beef*, half the Tex-Mex paste, half the Southwest Spice Blend (you will use more later), salt, and pepper. Cook, breaking up meat into pieces, until browned and cooked through,it should cook in about 4-6 minutes. Return green pepper to pan; stir to combine. Turn off heat.
Step 4- Place a small amount of the filling on one half of each tortilla. Roll up tortillas, starting with filled sides, to create enchiladas. Place seam sides down in an 8-by-8-inch baking dish or an ovenproof pan.
Step 5- In a medium bowl, combine tomato paste, remaining Tex-Mex paste and Southwest Spice Blend, and ½ cup water.Pour over enchiladas to thoroughly coat. Sprinkle with Mexican cheese blend. Bake on the top rack until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese has melted.
Step 6- Top enchiladas with lime crema and pico de gallo. Divide between plates and serve with any remaining lime wedges on the side.
This was my first time trying a HelloFresh meal, and overall for a first time getting the service, I would rate it a 7 out of 10. First, I think that everything being premeasured was a big plus for someone who doesn’t have the time to go and do those things. I think that for the taste of it that the meal itself was not bad, but they also weren’t the best enchiladas I’ve had. For me, the enchiladas were lacking flavor, and somewhat bland.
For the cost of it, you get 4 meals for around 45 dollars, but I don’t think that it was worth the amount of money. When someone accidentally buys it, you do not get a refund, you have to pay for the box anyway. However, after that, you can cancel the subscription by contacting customer service. Customer service for this company was reliable and communicative. They answered quickly and were very patient and helpful.
Overall, I would recommend this service to people who are in a rush at dinnertime, and maybe don’t have the time to food shop or prep a full meal. I would also recommend it to those who want to try new and different recipes, rather than the same boring dinners.
