Is Fenty Beauty Worth it?

Rihanna is looked up to by many. She is seen as an icon to many, and people praise the ground she walks on. If Rihanna says it then that’s how it goes. On September 8, 2017, Rihanna released her makeup brand Fenty Beauty. Fenty is the most successful celebrity beauty brand in the world; with an annual revenue of $582 million. Immediately she had many successes as her foundation (Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation). It provided a huge shade range that many women of color didn’t have access to. Fenty is commonly referred to as, the “new generation of beauty”. But is Fenty is as good as it seems?
I believe Fenty Beauty has had multiple makeup products that always have me running back to her aisle in Sephora.
One is one of her most iconic products, The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer. In simple terms her lip gloss. Throughout the years she released two other versions- ‘Heat’ and ‘Cream’. One: a plumping version of the iconic gloss the other: a cream version of the lip gloss. I love this lip gloss, and I always go back to refill it, no matter the price. One aspect that keeps me coming back is the formula that is used. Most lip glosses are very sticky and get annoying when they are on your lips for too long. But this formula is smooth, and non-sticky and provides a luminous glow. It also makes your lips look fuller, not to mention it smells amazing. The packaging for this is also so pretty, and I love the applicator. The shades are diverse, mainly starting with nudes and expanding out to more vibrant colors which makes you want to buy every single one. My favorite shade is Fenty Glow which is a shimmery rose nude. This particular shade goes with everything, and whenever I put it on I always get compliments. I recently just finished my first tube, got a refill and I couldn’t be more excited. Cost: $21

She recently released two new shades, Candy Soda, and Riri. Candy Soda is a mauvy-pink shade. This particular shade of lip gloss is partnered with the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) where 35% of the sales from this gloss go to support children who don’t have access to education, or healthcare, and support them during emergencies. So, when you get this gorgeous gloss, just know you also supporting people in need.
Secondly, is her Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer. This primer comes in three types: soft silk (hydrating), soft matte, and regular instant retouch primer. This primer is perfect for whatever makeup look you are going for, or whatever your skin needs. My skin is dry, so I usually go for the hydrating primer and it makes my makeup sit flawlessly. Whenever I recommend primers to anyone, I always tell them to get the Fenty one because it always makes your makeup look flawless, and feels nice on the skin. Cost: (Full-size) $36, (Mini) $20.
The next one is the Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint. I have never liked foundations that are full coverage, or foundations really at that. I don’t like makeup that sits heavy on my face, and I like a more flawless, natural finish. If that sounds like you this skin tint is perfect. It just feels like Rihanna reads my mind whenever she creates her makeup. My shade is in 13- a perfect shade match. This product offers medium coverage and doesn’t feel heavy and cakey on the face. Every time I wear this I get compliments, and people ask what makeup I use on my face. You can build with this depending on what your skin needs, but this gives a beautiful natural finish, that makes your skin glowy. One drawback I will say about this product is the price, it’s $35 for 1 ounce, which may throw people off. Cost: $35.
The final product by Fenty I’ll talk about is her Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder. My particular shade is Banana. This product is perfect for baking, or when you are ready to set your makeup. If your skin is oily, and the makeup starts to shine, this is perfect for you. Whenever I put this on, it makes my skin look like a filter. This product also smells amazing. If you need a touch-up or just want your base to look amazing, this is the setting powder for you. Cost: $36
Although I would go back and continue to buy these products, like every brand there are drawbacks. For some people, the prices of her products might be enough to look the other way and find an alternative. While I feel like the products are worth it, and I love the formulations, some of her products are pricey. For example, I was talking to my friend about her lip gloss, and she said she could never spend $21 for a lip gloss, and that may be the case for many girls. But that’s okay because not everyone can afford to spend that much money on a singular product, or want to for that matter. Fenty has high-quality products but at a price. It wouldn’t be a luxury brand like Charlotte Tilbury or Dior. Neither is it a drugstore brand like Nyx or e.l.f. but it’s in the middle ground.
There are a million more products I could talk about from Fenty Beauty, but I recommend every single one of the products she has. Usually, I wouldn’t trust a celebrity makeup brand, because it often feels like a cash grab. But the next time you feel skeptical about celebrity makeup brands, just know you can trust Rihanna. There’s a reason so many girls use Fenty. Her products and packaging are high-quality, and she knows what she’s doing. She recently released a new skincare line Fenty Skin, but that’s a review for next time.
