For DP Visual Arts SL and HL, students are learning art history. These classes were taught about art dating back even before the existence of Homosapiens. This art usually consisted of cave paintings and carvings from mammoth tusk. Students were presented with an image of one of these carvings, called The Lion Man. One of the cave paintings that students were shown was The Pig Painting. Students were instructed to take notes on these sculptures and paintings.
On 08/30/23 students were shown sculptures made by women trying to represent their own body; there was a problem with women body sculptures, as the lack of references and mirrors made accurate representation difficult. Women would have to look down at themselves, and the result would make their sculptures look abnormally bulky and unproportionate. One of the example sculptures students were shown was called The Venus sculpture
