Hello Schoolcraft Families and Kids. As we collectively navigate these difficult times, we understand learning appears a bit differently than in a pre-COVID-19 world. Time away from school does not mean students should be disconnected from engaging in practicing their skills from school, tapping into their natural curiosity, creating something new, serving their community, or making keen observations of the world around them. We have been inspired by Kate Gardoqui's observation in Education Week where "This time of school closure provides a magnificent opportunity for us to envision a kind of learning that is different from what happens in our classrooms", day to day (March 16, 2020). In a collective SCS effort, we compiled, created, and collaborated to provide you and our students with resources to make the most of this extended time away from school.
Peruse the tabs at the top of this page to identify multiple learning opportunities. These springboards into curiosity and practice align well with SCS' Essential Learner Outcomes called EAGLES Skills. We want to challenge you to initiate your learning, check in daily to hone other skills, and pacify other curiosities:
Practice a skill that is important to you. These can be guiding principles, transferable skills and work habits.
Follow your curiosity. Is there something you want to learn? Is there something that you are curious about? Research the topic and apply your new knowledge by creating or doing something.
Create something you are proud of. Produce a video, song, or piece of artwork. Write a reflection about what you created.
Find a way to help our community. Contact village or township leaders or maybe even your pastor and find a way to help others during this trying time.
Find a spot where you can observe the natural world. Getting fresh air and enjoying mother nature is healthy. Keep a journal and write your observations - what you see, hear, feel, and smell.
While there are many approaches of how to engage children in thinking, we believe there is no better source of engagement than in the world around them. Please check back with this site daily as it will evolve while we seek additional opportunities to stay connected, grow in our thinking, and enhance our connectivity with the world.
