Help Keep Families Covered as Kids Head Back to School!
Medicaid eligibility renewals began again in June after being paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Michigan Department of Education has been asked to share with local school districts information they can send to families. Districts are being asked to send the Keep Your Family Covered article to families through an email, as well as distribute this flyer at back-to-school events. More information can be found at www.michigan.gov/MIBridges.

Please Click HERE to read a letter from Matt Dailey regarding our OK2Say Program
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.

This year we’re excited to add a Family Night component to the 10th annual MiCareerQuest SW event. From 3:30 to 6 PM on Tuesday, October 24, families from your district are invited to the Expo Center to join the MiCareerQuest fun, including hands-on activities hosted by local employers and family-friendly career exploration guided by KRESA’s Career Connect staff. Intended primarily for high school students and their families (but open to younger siblings), MiCareerQuest Family Night offers multigenerational experiences highlighting local career opportunities and encouraging conversations about career next steps for both students and their family members.
We’re working hard to make sure everyone feels welcome – the Expo Center is wheelchair accessible, and we’ll offer interpretation in Spanish, Arabic, French, and American Sign Language. We’ll also help as much as we can with transportation options. We will be releasing the media package and fliers soon, but we wanted to be sure to share this info with you all first.
The State of Michigan is providing free school lunches for students this school year for ALL students. All parents will need to fill out the eligibility form as required by the State. 8th Grade ELA News
8th grade ELA spent time this week writing as a group, as well as individually. Everyone has a story to share and this week we brainstormed and worked diligently!!! Students also started the first novel unit titled, Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. The story is about a 15 year old troubled boy that has to choose a punishment for bullying and beating a peer. He is either tried as an adult, or spends a year on an island alone participating in Circle Justice. This novel is woven with tough life lessons and themes to help us stop and think how we can all be better people. It addresses our essential question which is~ "How can our life experiences shape our values? What makes you, you?"
