We have a new report to use that will help us see if students are skipping classes and will allow us to address this issue more quickly. In addition, tracking students’ tardies and informing students and parents about tardies is a time-consuming process. Because of this, for the last few weeks, tardies have not been tracked. Our front office and Dean of Students, Amy Lawrence, have developed a new streamlined process in place that will help us keep track of student tardies. Students and parents will be first notified once a student has received 2 tardies in a particular class and informed of every tardy thereafter. All of these procedures will go into effect on the first day of the second semester, January 22. You may review the tardy and attendance procedure for the Junior/Senior High School Campus by accessing our Student Handbook on the page. Our Student Handbook is viewable by clicking here.
JA Titan Business Challange
On Friday, December 15, 11 BMA students won the opportunity to travel to Western Michigan University to represent Schoolcraft and compete in the annual JA Titan Business Challenge. This regional competition is the culmination of the fall session of Junior Achievement, a program that brings community business leaders into the classroom to help teach business principles and give real-world insight.
JA Titan is a simulation-based program in which high school students compete as business CEOs in the phone industry, experiencing firsthand how an organization evaluates alternatives, makes decisions, analyzes the outcomes of those decisions, and then strategizes what to do next. With a focus on financial literacy and insights into the workforce, JA Titan brings business economics to life. As students work in teams, or on their own, to make financial decisions about production, marketing, research and development (R&D), and corporate social responsibility (CSR), they begin to see how every choice made in an organization relates to its future success.
The students competing at Western Michigan won the opportunity by winning their classroom's JA Titan competition week. Those students included: Elijah Wedel, Sya Schoultz, Elijah Martin, Carter Swinehart, Tyzjgi Henderson, David Glerum, Ace Drewyor, Kaden Story, Parker Rigby, Brenna Dorstewitz, and Caden Verburg.
Any students that want to participate must fill out a waiver form and pay a $10 fee to play and coach. Click HERE to print the waiver, or pick one up in the main office.
BMA Microsoft Certification
In November, all BMA students took the national certification testing for Microsoft Office PowerPoint. This came after a few weeks of working to learn the program in class. 32 students passed the certification test and earned Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in PowerPoint. Students who finished early had the option to work on other Microsoft Office programs in order to earn extra credit by gaining certification in them. Savannah Mozola and Alyssa McMillan successfully earned their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Word, as well as PowerPoint!
Additionally, each student has an option to enter a national Microsoft Office contest when they begin their certification test. Congratulations are in order for Dorie Peterson (pictured, with friend Chloe Phillips) as she placed 7th in the entire state of Michigan for the Fall Qualifier of the 2024 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship with her PowerPoint certification score!
