Slot Car Club Has a Great Start
At the beginning of the school year, a few students approached Principal Dailey with the desire to start a school club for slot car racing. Josh Willoughby had initiated interest with his classroom slot car track, and a trip to the Gilmore Car Museum helped fuel the drive for a Schoolcraft-based club. After working to fashion rules, a mission statement, and a leadership team, the students met with the administration and got a 'thumbs up'. At December's School Board meeting, the Golden Eagle Slot Car Club was presented and made an official club of Schoolcraft High School. Through the initiative of the club, community contacts have already been made, and club advisor, Rob Wagler, accompanied 5 members of the club to Hobby Sports in Portage, where they received the donation of a slot car track and cars, and $200 in gift certificates for future purchases for the club. The club leadership team includes: Xavier Palmer, President; Cody Copeland, Vice President; Isaac Murray, Media Specialist; Jesse Keim, Head Technician; Bohdan Evans, Head Mechanic; and Graham McGehee and Daniel Standish, Leaders-at-Large.

Classes Compete at WMU
Friday, December 16, students from Mr. Wagler's BMA classes had the opportunity to travel to Western Michigan University to compete in a regional business simulation called JA Titan. This is a part of the Junior Achievement program run in schools across the nation. These students won the honor to go to WMU by winning classroom competitions during the week. The JA Titan Regional Competition featured 9 different area schools and took place at the Haworth College of Business. Students were treated to breakfast and lunch, received a tour of the College, and listened to speakers Becky East, CFO of Bronson Healthcare and Dr. Steve Newell, Associate Dean of Operations and Graduate Programs at WMU. Congratulations to the team of Chloe VanderPloeg and Sophia Orton, who placed third overall in the competition!

What is Pathfinder and how do I use it?
To address the need to increase the number of Michigan residents with high-quality, in-demand degrees and credentials, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Employment and Training (LEO-E&T) is proud to share the creation of an online career planning tool.
The tool provides information to students, their parents, and guidance staff to make informed choices about educational and career options, as well as to help with creation of educational development plans. This free tool uses current labor market information, longitudinal wage data, and other institutional data and metrics, allowing improved skills-matching to career paths and jobs.
Find out more about how to use this tool by visiting the Tutorials or reviewing the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP
As one of the nation's largest need-based college scholarship programs, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. With the cold weather settling in for the season, we just want to remind parents and students that our doors do not open until 7:30 am for students. We will no longer be buzzing students in who arrive prior to this unless they have a club (i.e. FCA, student leadership), meeting, or class. If they are dropped off in the morning before doors are open, they will have to stand outside until 7:30 am, please have them dress for the weather.
