FALL TESTING - JUNIOR CLASS:

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

Each fall, students in the Junior class take the College Board's PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) test. This test qualifies students for national scholarships as well as provides them with an opportunity to practice the SAT. • TESTING DURATION: 7:55 A.M. - 11:15 A.M.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION NIGHTS

"Trauma and the Impact on Learning": October 14, 2019 - 5:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. (SHS - Performing Arts Center)

SCS would like to invite our parents, families, and community members to a monthly series of "Community Education Nights". This series aims to introduce topics connected to learning and the school environment that are of importance for our school community to understand, ask questions about, and/or become acclimated. As SCS listens to our community ask questions about learning and elements that impact our students, we want to provide you with the latest information and support in order to ensure all Eagles succeed.

The first "Community Education Night" will focus on trauma and the impact it has on students and learning. Whether you understand or are able to define trauma, we encourage our school community to attend. SCS School Psychologist, Michelle Schneider delivered this information to all teaching and administrative staff during our professional learning prior to the start of the school year. Mrs. Schneider is leading this presentation for our families and school community in an effort to bring this valuable information to our school community.

We hope you can join us on Monday, October 14th from 5:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the SHS Performing Arts Center. Child care will be provided.

"Vaping and E-cigarettes": November 11, 2019 - 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. (SHS - Performing Arts Center)

With vaping and e-cigarettes capturing a great deal of attention nationally, our second "Community Education Night" will center on the learning about this hazardous health trend within school-aged students. This presentation and question and answer session will include information from the American Heart Association. In the meantime, please review information about this topic below and feel free to join us on November 11th for additional information.

PREPARING FOR POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION

As your student prepares for life after graduation, Kalamazoo Valley Community College is offering valuable opportunities for students and families to get acquainted with options after high school. While both flyers are below, the College Night on Monday, October 14th is slated to bring at least sixteen colleges and universities into the area for a one-stop opportunity to learn about areas of study, admissions criteria, and campus offerings. In oder to qualify for federally-funded aide for post-secondary learning, families must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). KVCC is hosting a multitude of evenings to support families with completing their FAFSA and address any questions or concerns about the process. If you have any questions about these events, please contact Schoolcraft High School Guidance Counselor, Larry Ledlow at (269) 488-7358 or via email at ledlowl@schoolcraftcr.org. SHS has also arranged for the following universities to visit our building during both lunch periods:

      • Western Michigan University: October 15th
      • Calvin College: October 21st
      • University of Michigan - Flint: October 22nd
