How different volleyball moves work and and what their called
By Reagan
Bump, set, spike! The three most well-known volleyball moves. Not only will we be talking about those three moves, but as well as serving, blocking, rotations, and setting. I hope you learn at least something about volleyball moves. I love talking about volleyball and hope you get somewhat interested in it. Let’s get started.
The first set of moves I'm talking about are all the different serves, such as underhand, overhand, topspin, jump, and float. The underhand serve is when they hit the ball in an under-throw type of movement but hit the ball instead of throwing it. Then overhand is when they throw the ball in the air and hit it over the net. Like overhand, jump serve is when they throw the ball in the air and run and jump to hit it. Topspin is when they throw the ball in the air spinning it and hitting it. And finally, the float serve is an overhand serve, but when you hit it curves confusing the receiving side.
The second set of moves I'm going over is bumping and digging. Now the two are not that different but do have differences. First, bumping is one of the most common volleyballs moves. Bumping is when you group your hands together to form a solid base using your forearms to then bump the ball to your setter. (Another player with a different move) The bump needs to be high enough for the setter to set. They need to line their shoulders to where they want the ball to go. Then digging is basically the same, but instead of easily shuffling to the ball or the ball just come to you, the ball will be low, and you will have to dive and dig up the ball, usually those types of hits make the ball go haywire, so don’t feel like your horrible at volleyball.
The last set of moves I'm going over is spiking and blocking. Each move goes against each other. One team must run up to the ball and hit it. The opposing team must jump up and block it. There can be one or two blockers, usually you will see two people blocking in volleyball. The setter must set the ball upwards high enough for the hitter to jump up or stay on the ground to hit it over the net. The hitter has a specific foot work they must try to do. (2 small steps into 2 big steps to hit it) But it’s always different for different teams. Then the blocker(s) must jump up and try to block the ball from going to their side. They must jump up and block the ball with their hands.
Now, those are pretty much the main moves in Volleyball. The other thing that I didn’t go over is the rotation / swap in rotation, but those aren’t as useful to know since everyone's rotation is different. Thank you so much for reading! I hope to see you again. Bye!
