How the Nazis changed the world (fort the worse).
By: Camila M.C
The Nazis formed a large world-wide commotion and scare for millions, but why, and more importantly how, did they do it? On this blog the topic of the Holocaust ad Hitler’s rise to power will be explored. Have fun!
1919-1933
The rise of the Nazis
The Nazis first formed as a group in 1919, as the “German Workers Party” by Anton Dexler. It was re-named the “Nationalist Socialist German Worker’s Party” (NAZI) in 1920, one year before Hitler took over them. The party was formed by angry citizens after prices[0R1] for food, water, and housing went up drastically and the political parties were severely unstable after the war. The Nazis promoted a nationalist and anti-communist agenda.
In 1921, Adolf Hitler became the leader of the Nazi party, which was successful but needed more members to join. Hitler was named the leader for his ‘charming’ personality and his ability to draw in new members. He did not show interest in becoming a political figure in his early years of leadership, but his convincing speeches about anti-communism and ultranationalism helped him gain support and power, which he used to run for Chancelor of Germany.
In 1923-25, Hitler was convicted to five years in prison for High treason, but he only ended up serving for one year. While he was in prison, he authored his famous book Mein Kampf (my struggle). This book promoted elements of racism and Nazi ideologies. Hitler published this book in two volumes, volume 1 being released in 1925 and volume 2 in 1926. It sold around one million copies in 1933, when Hitler first appeared in a government office.
When it all started going wrong
In 1925, Hitler established the SS[0R2] (Schutzstaffel) during the Nazi Regime, making them responsible for the German police force and the building of concentration camps, but also for security, ethnicity identification, and population policy.
On April 10th, 1932, Hitler lost the Presidential election to Paul von Hindenburg, but on January 30th, 1933, President Hindenburg appointed him as the Chancellor of Germany, but this would prove to be a mistake relatively quickly, as on March 23rd of that same year, the German Parliament Building was burnt. by arsonists whom we do not know the name of), and the German parliament passed the Law for Rectification of the Distress of Nation and Reich, more commonly known as the Enabling act, soon after. The law allowed Hitler, as chancellor, to be able to initiate and sing legislation law without needing parliamentary consent, which effectively made him the dictator of Germany.
1934-1940
On June 30th to July 2nd, 1934, Hitler ordered nazi leaders to eliminate the Sturmabteilung (SA) and kill other political enemies. This cemented and agreement between the nazi regime and the German army that consolidated the power of Nazis and officially made Hitler the Führer (leader) of Germany and Hitler claimed absolute power over Germany.
Summer, 1936, Hitler opened the Berlin Olympics, and it was a rare occasion in which the same place hosted both the winter and the summer Olympics. The Nazis used the Olympics for propaganda purposes, and made it seem like Germany was a new, strong, and united nation at the expense of the Jews and Roma (Gypsies).
September 20th -30th 1938, Hitler met with the leaders of Britain, France, and Italy in Munich, Germany and they agreed on the annexation of Sudetenland (The territory comprising the western, northern, and southern border regions of the former Czechoslovakia), in exchange for their pledge of peace against Germany, Six months later, Hitler moved against the Czechoslovakia state.
March 12th, 1938, the German troops marched into Austria. In midday, Hitler crossed the Austro-German border. The following day, the annexation of Austria to the Germain Reich is announced.
January 23rd, 1939, Hitler announced during a speech to the parliament that another war would result in the full annexation of Jews from Europe.
August 23rd, 1939. German and Soviet ministers Ribbentrop and Molotov signed a German-Soviet pact. The main purpose of this agreement was a ten year “truce” in which they would not harm the other.
September 1st, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, officially starting WWII.
Fall 1939 or January 1940, Hitler signed a secret authorization for a human euthanasia program, which is the act of killing patients with any sort of disabilities who were living in German or German annexed territory. This was (surprisingly) the last time Hitler signed a law for systematic mass murder.
1941-1945
The way it ended (for Hitler, at least)
1941, Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Reinhard Heydrich, and other head of German authorities reach the decision to physically “remove” the Jews of Europe.
June 22nd, 1941, The German army invaded the Soviet Union in the name of "Operation Barbarossa." Contradicting their conquests in western Europe, Hitler and other Nazi leaders find the start of a war against the Soviet Union in racial and ideological terms.
December 11th, 1941, After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, The Nazis and Italy decide to declare war on the US, despite the fact that the US only declared war on Japan. After less than a year, America and Germany fought in North Africa.
Jan 31st- Feb 2nd, after months of war, and major loss, the German soldiers finally surrender at Stalingrad. It was a major point in WWII, and it efficiently destroyed Hitlers dreams of conquer.
July 20th, 1944. Hitler survives a major assassination attempt.
April 30th, 1945. Soldiers go looking for Hitler to capture and jail him, but he commits suicide before they could find him.
This is how it all happened and ended. Some people would say that it was rather quick, but the victims and survivors have different ideas of what “quickly” means.
