What do we know about buildings?

 What do we want to find out?



Vocabulary Words/Definition:

feature: a specific part of a whole

building: a structure with a roof and walls that is built for permanent use

Names of Building Features, e.g., door, window, roof, walls

shelter: a place that protects people from weather or danger

weather: the state of the atmosphere, including temperature, precipitation, and visibility window window: an opening in the wall or roof of a building for looking outside and admitting light and air





 

Week 2: Investigation 1

 Focus Question: 

What different types of buildings are there? How are they the same?

Vocabulary Words/Definition:

neighborhood: an area in a city, town, or other place where people live near each other

map: a tool that shows what natural features, places, and/or important buildings are in an area

houses: homes comprised of a single building

apartments: homes comprised of rooms or sets of rooms in a building; buildings containing several apartments

stores: buildings where people buy and sell things

offices: buildings where people work

schools: buildings where people learn and teach

home: a building where people live

sign: an object that provides information through symbols or writing

What are building made of? What makes a building strong?

strong: tough; hard to break or damage

collapsed: fell apart 

sturdy: strong and hard to break or weaken 

Names of Building:

 plywood, bricks, drywall

How can we make a community with our buildings?



Vocabulary Words/Definition:

community: a place where many people live and work

plan: a decided method for completing a task or goal

gather: to bring objects or people to one place 

location: the place where something is, was, or will be
