SCG ~ STL is a peanut free building. Please refrain from sending your student with peanuts in the form of peanut butter, granola bars, etc. to ensure the safety of our entire school community. We thank you for your cooperation.

Grading Policy

In accordance to the Student Handbook, grading is as follows:

A+ = 97 – 100

A = 93 – 96

B+ = 89 – 92

B = 85 – 88

C+ = 81 – 84

C = 77 – 80

D+ = 74 – 76

D = 70 – 73

F = Below 70

If a student is absent and needs to make up work, there will be a folder in my classroom that contains any missing work for them to complete. They will have two days to make up any of this work for full credit.

Students who receive a failing mark in religion at the end of the school year will not be promoted to the next grade level.

Honor Roll

Students may be considered for honor roll if they are absent no more than 5 times and late no more than 3 times per trimester (unless excused by the principal) in conjunction with their grade point average for the trimester.

The NYC Department of Health urges parents to keep a child home in the event they are sick to reduce the spread of illness throughout our school. Hand washing and covering our noses/mouths while sneezing is also encouraged to prevent the spread of illnesses. In the event that a student has a contagious illness or lice, you must notify the school ASAP so we can inform the appropriate parties.

Additionally, if a student misses any more than 5 homework assignments, they will automatically be ineligible for honors that trimester.

Dress Code

Students must be in their school uniform at all times unless on the designated dress down days (see Calendar for specific days... must pay $3 to participate in dress down days).  Jewelry is to be kept to a minimum. Female students are permitted to wear one pair of small earrings and a necklace, so long as the necklace is tucked into the uniform shirt.

Students are expected to maintain proper hygiene as well.

Students are welcome and empowered to wear their natural hair and ethnic hairstyles, which include but are not limited to braids, locs, and twists.

Students are not allowed to wear the following items on campus:

Arrival and Dismissal

Students will arrive through the Avenue D doors each morning. The doors will open for breakfast starting at 7:30am. A student is considered late after 8:05am.

Students will depart from school at the Troy Avenue exit in the parking lot. If you plan on sending someone to pick up your child who is not on their contact list, the school must have this in writing at least 24 hours in advance, whether in a note sent in with your student or in an email to the school.

In regards to students walking home by themselves, here is what the Handbook has to say:

"Students who proceed home on their own, either by walking, bicycle, or otherwise, must do so as safely and directly as possible and submit written authorization signed by the parent/guardian to the Academy. They must obey all traffic and trespassing laws, and cross at designated crosswalks. Students in grades K - 8 will not be permitted to travel home from the Academy without a parent, guardian or other authorized adult or another pre-arranged travel accommodation (such as a school bus). In the case of a younger student traveling home with an older student, such as an older sibling, the Academy must receive written authorization from a parent/guardian. The Academy reserves the right to not release the student(s) to travel home on their own, either by walking or otherwise, if it deems that is not in the best interest of the students."

If a parent needs to contact their student, please contact the Main Office at 718-629-9330. A student will not be permitted to contact you through their cellular device. Cellular devices are not allowed to be used in the building by students under any circumstance during school hours.
