STEM Priorities at South Central
The South Central Community School Corporation's mission and vision statements align with the Indiana STEM Priorities by emphasizing the importance of providing engaging learning experiences to empower students to succeed in life. The corporation's goal of student-centered learning also aligns with the first priority of refining STEM pedagogy with research-based best practices. By providing opportunities, experiences, and courses to ensure that all graduates are prepared to succeed in life, the corporation is incorporating STEM content through research-based instructional practices such as inquiry-based learning, problem-based learning, and engineering design and modeling in mathematics and science.
The initiatives of the corporation's goal of student-centered learning also align with the Indiana STEM Priorities. For example, the corporation provides opportunities to utilize Makerspace for all students, which aligns with the third priority of increasing access to STEM courses, programs, and resources. The corporation also uses PLTW programming (7-12) and CREATE2THINK curriculum (K-8) to encourage STEM career exploration, which aligns with the first priority of refining STEM pedagogy with research-based best practices. Additionally, the corporation encourages opportunities for STEM career exploration, which aligns with the third priority of increasing access to STEM courses, programs, and resources.
The program measures used by the corporation to evaluate the success of its initiatives also align with the Indiana STEM Priorities. For example, the percentage of students that utilize the Makerspace aligns with the third priority of increasing access to STEM courses, programs, and resources. The student and parent survey, progress monitoring, and participation in STEM night align with the first priority of refining STEM pedagogy with research-based best practices. Finally, ILEARN - Science and ILEARN - Math (Problem Solving) align with the first priority of refining STEM pedagogy with research-based best practices.

Dr. Jenner Visits South Central to Celebrate Student Success
Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education, visited South Central Schools on Wednesday, October 18th to celebrate student testing scores and discuss all the great things happening at the school! Dr. Jenner toured the building, visited classrooms to observe different lessons taught by teachers, saw STEM programming/activities, and even got hands-on experience with the high school welding program.
