Let me begin by welcoming you to our grade 5/6 Website. This site will serve as one of the many communication tools between school and home to help support your child's learning and to foster our partnership in your child's education. I will try to post regularly either on our class blog, Instagram or on our Twitter account so you have a window into our classroom and to provide tools to support you and your child.

Because you are the primary educator of your child, it is important for you to communicate the value of learning French to your child. Working together, we can provide a mutually supportive framework for your child's education.

The school calendar is attached to this site so you can keep abreast of all school activities. Ms. Kelly, Mme Denbok and I will facilitate your child's learning this academic year. Mme Kelly is responsible for teaching your child music, media and health. Mme Denbok will teach physical education and dance. I will be responsible for all other subjects.

Provide a language rich environment for your child by encouraging him/her to talk, read and write at home in his/her first language to strengthen his/her first-language skills, which are the foundation for learning French (reading aloud together and talking about what was read; writing grocery lists, stories and letters).

Become familiar with the FSL learning goals and expectations for your child’s grade, so you can discuss your child’s work with him/her, and ask relevant questions about your child’s progress to better understand and support your child’s learning. Getting together with other parents of FSL learners to share resources and to share ideas about cultural opportunities for your children is a great way to get involved! It will benefit the whole family and may even encourage parents to learn French too! You may even want to join, or start a local chapter, of Canadian Parents for French!
