Head's Headline
March has been an incredibly successful and action-packed month at St Clement Danes, filled with events celebrating World Book Day and Science Week alongside numerous sporting achievements and cultural milestones.
A particular highlight was the truly historic moment before our Tuesday evening Easter Concert, where we officially renamed the LRC the Dr Valentine Learning Resource Centre. We were privileged to welcome back the school’s former Headteacher, Dr Josephine Valentine OBE, alongside her family and former colleagues for this special dedication. The music throughout the evening was simply phenomenal; it was the best concert I have witnessed in my time as Headteacher since 2018. A wonderful way to celebrate the immense contribution the outgoing Year 13 Performing Arts and Music pupils have made to St Clement Danes and Music in their time at the school. The outstanding performances served as a fitting tribute to Dr Valentine’s remarkable 20-year legacy as Headteacher (1998–2018) and her visionary leadership over the past decade in establishing and leading the Danes Educational Trust.
This celebration carries even greater significance as Dr Valentine prepares to step down from her role as CEO. After an extraordinary 42 years of dedicated service to education, this transition marks the conclusion of a monumental chapter in our history. Throughout her two decades as Headteacher, she often remarked that she had "the best job at the best school in the world," a sentiment that resonated deeply with the staff, pupils and parents who flourished under her guidance. We are proud that her name will now be permanently linked to our centre of learning, honouring a leader who has shaped the lives of so many.
The evening was also a poignant milestone for our Year 13 pupils, to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude for their contributions to the musical life of the school. In particular, I would like to thank our Music Prefects, Stanley and Sam, for their exceptional musical commitment over the past seven years.
This week also saw the appointment of our new Senior Prefect team. Following a rigorous process of hustings, speeches to their peers, and formal interviews, I am delighted to announce Chloe and Lars as Head Girl and Head Boy, and Tabi and Nathan as their Deputies. I was truly impressed by the exceptional quality of the 8 pupils who advanced to the final stage; their confidence, depth, humanity, and intelligence were truly inspiring. Congratulations to the newly appointed team, and our thanks to the outgoing prefects for their outstanding contributions to the school.
In addition to our musical celebrations, we’ve seen incredible grit on the pitch. We are immensely proud of our U18 Girls team, who played with heart and soul in the County Cup Final this past Tuesday.
While the silverware stayed just out of reach, the girls finished as County Cup Runners-Up, a stellar achievement for the squad and coaching staff alike. A special shout-out to Miley, whose exceptional performance earned her the Player of the Match title. Congratulations to the entire team on a fantastic season, and thank you to everyone who joined us to cheer them on.
Last week, we were treated to an incredible Fashion Show which showcased the amazing work of our Textiles pupils; my thanks to Miss Georgiou and Mrs Twine for their superb organisation. Furthermore, congratulations to everyone involved in the school production of Alice in Wonderland. It was an outstanding performance, and I would like to extend a special thank you to the entire Drama faculty for creating such a professional production.
As we head into the break, we wish the best of luck to our pupils and staff departing for several exciting enrichment opportunities. Our athletes are heading to Lanzarote for warm-weather training, while our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants are venturing to the Lake District for their expedition. We also celebrate the success of our recent international visits; pupils who took part in the Immersion trip to Spain and the Art and Photography trip to Amsterdam have returned with wonderful stories of their cultural experiences. You can read more about these visits in the news articles linked below.
Finally, a huge thank you to the staff who dedicated their time and effort to organising these trips, ensuring our pupils have access to these world-class challenges.
I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break, especially those celebrating religious festivals during the holidays.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported and contributed to making our PA Quiz Night such a fantastic success.
We’re delighted to share that, thanks to your generosity and enthusiasm, we raised an incredible £4,500! This would not have been possible without your support. All funds raised will go towards supporting St Clement Danes, helping us provide valuable opportunities, resources, and experiences that enrich and support our children’s learning and development.
It was wonderful to see such a great turnout and to share such a fun evening together. Your support truly makes a difference, and we are so grateful.
Thank you once again, and we hope to see you at future events!

This month, thanks to your generous donations, the Anchor Fund has been able to purchase new music stands for our pupils to practice ahead of the annual Easter concert.
Mr Butterfield, Head of Music, commented: "These professiona -grade stands allow our musicians to maintain proper posture and focus entirely on their performance. Thank you to our parents for helping us maintain a professional environment for our ensembles."
We need parents' help and support to continue enriching and enhancing our students' experience. Even a small monthly donation can make a significant difference. Please support the school by contributing to the Anchor Fund today
