What is Math Academy ?

The Santa Cruz High Math Academy is a two-year program designed for incoming 9th grade students.  The curriculum is integrated and accelerated. The students that have success in Math Academy will be prepared for AP Calculus BC their junior year.  Some students may elect to take AP Calculus AB instead.  Math options for senior year include AP Statistics, UCSC math classes, and Cabrillo math classes.

Freshman Year 1:  The first year of Math Academy covers Algebra I, Geometry, and a variety of other intermediate/advanced topics in mathematics.  These include, Fractals, Chaos Theory, Transformational Geometry, Probability, Statistics, Intermediate Algebra, and an introduction to Trigonometry.

Sophomore Year 2: The second year of Math Academy covers the entire curriculum of Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, and Analytic Geometry.  In addition, a substantial amount of Statistics and Calculus curricula are covered.  Other non-traditional high school math topics are covered including calculator programming and matrices.

Most days consist of students working in groups collaborating with each other towards a common goal.  The curriculum is designed to foster exploration and develop inquiry in mathematics within an activity-based setting.  As individuals, the students will complete Warm-Ups, daily homework, and authentic assessments.  There is an application process for consideration in this program.  Please see the links below for an explanation on how to apply.
