English With Asamoto

The Key to Becoming a Knight

Come open to ideas, opinions, and suggestions. Create a safe space for all to enjoy and thrive.

My classroom is an open space for students to share their ideas and opinions without judgement and discrimination. My hope is to provide a safe place for all students to engage in their life experiences through literature. I look forward to creating lasting relationships with each my students as they grow and shine into adulthood.

English 4 is based upon the ERWC curriculum and will be a series of expository texts that compliment the novels we will be reading. In order to prepare students for college, all UC, CSU, and Cabrillo will accept a grade of a B or higher as an entry into the English 1A class without taking a placement exam if student is conditionally ready.

English 4 Syllabus

English 1 is based on three novels, an epic poem, and a play. We will work to evoke thought-provoking discussions through Socratic Seminars and perfect writing skills through multiple genres of writing and close reading.

About Me

I have been teaching in Santa Cruz City Schools for over ten years now. I am currently teaching the ERWC for English 4 and English 1. I am always available by email at any time before 10pm, including weekends. I am happily married to my husband who is a firefighter for the City of Salinas and have two beautiful girls Emma and Rylee ages 8 and 7.

I am not only an English teacher but the tech coach at Soquel High. For the past three years I have been involved in the Google Edtech community and have both my teacher 1 and 2 leader certification. I am also working to become a Google 1 and 2 certified educator. I use tons of tech tools in the classroom and love to explore and pilot new programs. For the past two years I have used Pear Deck in the classroom and this year became a Pear Deck inspirational educator. With all the tech I use and teach creates a blended learning class students can access at all times.

Last year I had the great opportunity to mentor my second student teacher and received from UCSC a certificate for the mentor teaching professional development program. This year I will continue to work with student teachers from UCSC.
