Academic Advisement
The high school experience is the final level towards graduation. Selecting courses for the upcoming school year is an important decision-making process for students and families. The outcomes determine the academic opportunities and experiences a student will have at SCELA and create the foundation of knowledge from which the student can pursue future academic and career goals. It is the goal of the SCELA counselors and administrators, in conjunction with students and parents, to develop a schedule for each student that meets his or her educational needs and interests. Academic advisement occurs annually with freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students.

GRADING
PROGRESS REPORTS/ REPORT CARDS
Progress reports and quarterly report cards will be available through our PowerSchool and sent to all parent/guardians at mid-marking period and the end of the quarter. The progress report will state the student’s current grade and may comment on his/her progress. In addition, parent/guardians can check their students’ grades by accessing the PowerSchool Parent Portal found on the district’s website. The final report card for the year will be available online after the last day of school.
GMAS POLICIES
SCELA students are not exempt from GMAS exams and must take the exam in person. Information on the testing dates and location will be available to parents via the school website. High school students who miss the GMAS risk failing the course as the test accounts for a certain percentage of the final grade. It is imperative that student do not miss their GMAS.
HONOR ROLL CALCULATION
Honor roll will be calculated using the chart of weighted averages and credit value of the course, as seen below.
HIGH HONOR ROLL
In order for a student to achieve high honor roll status, he/she must attain a grade average of at least 90% with no individual grade being lower than 85% in all subjects.
HONOR ROLL
In order for a student to achieve honor roll status, he/she must attain a grade average of at least 85% with no individual grade being lower than 75% in all subjects.
CLASS RANK
For the purposes of class ranking, which begins in the student’s 9th grade year, each student receives an overall numeric average which includes all courses attempted. A student moving into the Savannah-Chatham District becomes eligible for class ranking only after he or she has been a student in the District for more than one semester or 91 days. Class rank is only recalculated after a final grade has been submitted at the end of the school year. GPA and class rank is calculated based off of courses taken at SCELA.
