The Savannah Arts Academy choral program strives to achieve the highest possible standard of musical excellence while instilling in its members a life-long appreciation of music, an abiding love of beauty; a keen sense of respect for themselves and others; and the self-discipline necessary to lead their family, school, and community. The SAA choral program has a rich twenty-year tradition of choral excellence that is unique among American high schools. Members of the choir frequently participate in performance tours and competitions in Washington, D.C. (2019), Reykjavik, Iceland (2018), and New York, N.Y. (2016). Dr. Jared Register is the Director of Choral Activities at Savannah Arts Academy where his appointment began in 2017. In this role he conducts the Bella Voce, Cantabile, Concert Choir, and Tenor/Bass Chorus ensembles in addition to teaching aural skills and music history. Alongside his teaching, Register serves as Director of Music and Organist at Trinity United Methodist Church on historic Telfair Square in Savannah.
An active conductor, clinician, accompanist, and church musician, Register maintains an active schedule throughout the state. His scholarly interests include motivations to sing, choral classroom management, incorporating aural skills in the choral rehearsal, and rehearsal pedagogy. Serving as a clinician for Georgia Music Educators Association, Register has presented interest sessions on the above research topics. In addition, the choirs have received juried invitation to a GMEA in-service conference, multiple first place winnings at competitions, superior ratings at performance evaluations, and regular participation in domestic and international performance tours. Students are also frequent flyers at All-State Chorus, All-State Reading Chorus, and Governor’s Honors Program events each year.
Prior to his appointments in Savannah, Register served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Georgia. He received several awards for outstanding teaching and work with the UGA choral area and choral music education courses. Register previously taught middle school choir, general music, middle grades reading, worked with community musical theater (K-12), and held various church music positions alongside his teaching. Register holds graduate degrees in choral music education and conducting from The University of Georgia (DMA) and Georgia Southern University (MM). He is an active member of American Choral Directors Association and Georgia Music Educators Association.
