7th & 8th Grade Students have the opportunity to audition for All-State and District I Honor Band. The first round audition for All-State serves as the only audition for District Honor Band. Students who are interested will prepare major scales, a chromatic scale, and an etude. They will perform these along with a brief sight-reading example at the first round audition in December. If students score high enough, they can move on to the 2nd round audition, which takes place in January. The top scores of the 2nd round are selected to the GMEA All State Band. The top scores from the 1st round are selected to the GMEA District I Honor Band. 

Audition information comes out at the beginning of the school year. Any students interested in auditioning will need to pay $32 as an audition fee. Help sessions before and after school will be available to those interested. Additionally, private lessons are highly recommended. 

Students who are selected to the District I Honor Band will spend a weekend at GSU-Armstrong learning a full concert program with the best band students in Savannah and the surrounding school districts. Students who are selected to the All State Band will spend another weekend in Athens, Georgia learning a full concert program with the best band students in the state of Georgia under the baton of a world-renowned director.
