Hello there!

I've been a Professional School Counselor for over 20 years!

(I know. That's a long time and it's starting to show 😉)

Chatham County has been my home throughout my career and I am looking forward to my 6th year at Bloomingdale in 2021/2022.

This is the spot to come check out resources, get information, get in touch with me or just relax.  This is a work in progress, so let me know if there are additional topics or information you would like me to include. There are several pages full of information, links and activities, so check it out!  I'll be updating and adding information throughout the year, so don't be a stranger.😊

the Counseling Program at B'dale Elementary

This year will be full of challenges and we are here to provide support through Classroom Lessons, Small Group Support, and Individual Counseling.  We collaborate with teachers and parents to help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

We REALLY focus on SELF-REGULATION and MINDFULNESS at Bloomingdale. Check out the videos below to get a better understanding of the concepts that we base many of our lessons & activities on.

Why do we have feelings?  Are feelings and emotions the same thing?

Social EmotionaL Learning at B'dale Elementary

We use Sanford Harmony as our school based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program.  Sanford Harmony is a research based program that has many different components to assist our students in developing Social Emotional skills.

The program is built on two pillars. Weekly lessons, organized by five focus themes, provide grade-level lessons and activities. Everyday Practices are daily strategies which create a sense of community within the learning environment. The in-class lessons address the themes in a variety of ways, while Home-School Connections enable students’ families to reinforce the learning at home. While Classroom teachers lead the lessons and everyday practices in the classroom, Counselors reinforce those lessons with SEL focused sessions, discussions and activities.

Harmony at Home is an online toolkit for families and caregivers to teach vital social emotional learning (SEL) skills to boys and girls using the strategies Sanford Programs has developed for classroom teachers. Sanford Harmony has created lessons for parents to make this transition as easy and rewarding as possible.

You don't have to "teach" a lesson to focus on your child's Social Emotional Health.  Just check out the website and begin to see what it's all about.  Reinforcing those skills at home is as simple as having conversations during dinner, in the car or at bedtime.

As your family navigates the challenges and opportunities that come with learning at home, developing social emotional learning skills is beneficial to kids of all ages. Read the WELCOME LETTER below to learn more and access the Sanford Harmony Online Learning Portal to get started!
