  Please remember to check and sign your child's weekly homework. Your support helps students develop responsibility, practice important skills, and stay on track with their learning.

⭐ Happening This Week: Character Counts Week!

Butler Elementary will celebrate Character Counts Week by highlighting five character traits through our morning announcements. We encourage students to demonstrate these traits in the classroom, in the hallways, on the playground, and throughout the school community.

Let's recognize students who make positive choices! Students who demonstrate these important character traits should be celebrated and rewarded with Bear Bucks or ClassDojo points.

Families can help by discussing the importance of showing kindness, respect, responsibility, and good character at home and at school.

We look forward to a fun evening of school spirit and community celebration! We hope to see our Butler families there.

📖 ELA What Are We Learning?

Students will learn to:

• Analyze expository texts by identifying main ideas, facts, and key details that support the information presented.

• Build vocabulary by acquiring general, academic, and specialized words through grade-level texts and content.

• Examine text features and organizational structures, including chapter titles, diagrams, and problem-and-solution structures, to understand how authors communicate ideas clearly.

Family Connection: When reading informational texts together, ask your child to identify the main idea, explain which details support it, and describe how text features help readers understand the information.

📚 What We Are Learning This Week

➗ Math: Fractions

Students will develop their understanding of fractions by:

• Comparing fractions using appropriate strategies.

• Finding equivalent fractions.

• Adding fractions with unlike denominators.

• Subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.

Family Connection: Encourage your child to practice identifying equivalent fractions and solving fraction problems. You can use everyday examples, such as sharing a pizza or measuring ingredients in a recipe.

🌎 Science

Standard: S5E1b — Develop simple interactive models to collect data that illustrate how changes in surface features are or were caused by constructive and/or destructive processes.

Students will:

• Explore constructive and destructive processes that change Earth's surface.

• Develop and use simple interactive models to investigate changes in landforms.

• Collect and analyze data to explain how Earth's surface changes over time.

Family Connection: Discuss examples of changes to Earth's surface, such as erosion along a riverbank, the formation of a delta, or the buildup of land from volcanic activity.

 Social Studies

📜 The U.S. Constitution & Amendments

Learning Intention:
I am learning about the U.S. Constitution so that I can explain the purpose and process of changing amendments.

Essential Question:
How are amendments outlined and changed in the Constitution?

Students will explore how amendments are added to the Constitution and why the amendment process is important.

This week, students are encouraged to complete the following activities with a family member. Choose a time to learn, talk, and have fun together!

➗ Math Challenge: Fraction Fun

Use a pizza, sandwich, or another food item to explore fractions together.

• Name two equivalent fractions.

• Compare two fractions and explain which is greater.

• Create one addition or subtraction problem with unlike denominators and solve it together.

🌎 Science Challenge: Earth's Changing Surface

Look outside or find a picture of a landform. Identify one way Earth's surface may change.

Can you explain whether the change is constructive or destructive and describe what evidence supports your answer?

📖 ELA Challenge: Read, Find, Explain!

Read a short informational text, article, or nonfiction book with a family member.

• Identify the main idea.

• Find two supporting facts or details.

• Explain how a heading, diagram, caption, or other text feature helps you understand the text.

 Social Studies Challenge: Our Constitution, Our Voices

Discuss this question with your family:

Why might our country need to add an amendment to the Constitution?

Work together to describe one change you think could help your community. Explain why it would be important.

⭐ Character Counts Challenge: Show Your Character!

Choose one positive character trait highlighted at school this week. Demonstrate it at home by helping someone, showing respect, being responsible, or offering encouragement.

Family Reflection: What did you do to demonstrate good character, and how did it make a difference?
