Senior Schooling Pathways

Senior Streams

There are three pathways for senior schooling. Each pathway results in the completion of the Higher School Certificate.


The minimum requirements for completion of a HSC are:

2 units of Compulsory English (only mandatory)

6 units of Board Developed Courses

3 Courses - 2 units in value or greater

At least 4 subjects (including English)



In Senior schooling there are 3 pathways available to students: 

Each of these patterns of study have benefits for its students and it is important to be guided and advised on the most appropriate pathway for you to set you up for future success during these final years. 

ATAR ELIGIBLE HSC PATHWAY


CATEGORY A SUBJECTS

STUDENTS CAN SELECT ALL CATEGORY A SUBJECTS, OR SELECT CATEGORY A SUBJECTS WITH THE INCLUSION OF 1 CATEGORY B SUBJECT.


TO GET AN ATAR
Majority of Board Developed CoursesNo more than 2 Units of Board Endorsed or Content Endorsed courses can be included in the calculation of an ATAR 
  • 8 Units of Category A (board developed) subjects 
  • 2 Units of English 
  • 3 Board Developed Courses of 2 units or greater
  • 4 subjects 

COMBINED VOCATIONAL TRAINING & HSC PATHWAY


CATEGORY B SUBJECTS


EVET COURSES
  • All VET courses are Category B courses
  • Vet courses include work placement and are an additional cost to your studies
  • VET subjects can contribute to the Higher School Certificate and some are ATAR eligible


SCHOOL-BASED TRAINEESHIPS or APPRENTICESHIPS
  • A great way for students to set themselves up for the career they want while completing their HSC.
  • Students are paid for real work experience and gain a qualification that contributes towards their HSC studies as well as further work opportunities.

NON-ATAR HSC PATHWAY


CATEGORY B SUBJECTS


NON-ATAR SUBJECTS
Students receive their HSC but are not eligible for an ATAR which would gain them entry into university.
A non-ATAR HSC allows students to gain the skills developed through senior courses without the pressure of the external exams.
Some Courses studied in the Non-ATAR stream will require HSC Examinations
Students complete 3 Board Developed Courses (Category A) plus Category B Courses
