Marion Cilker was an alumna of San Jose State University's College of Education,an artist, and a lover of art. A 1939 graduate of the College of Humanities and the Arts, Marion Cilker had a long family connection with San José State University.
Her mother and aunts also graduated from San José State University when it was San José Normal School. In 2009, Cilker generously endowed two full tuition scholarships for teacher-education students committed to infusing teaching with the arts. Her gift also supports an annual conference free for all SJSU students and teachers from local Title I designated public schools.
The Arts Really Teach Conference is made possible by the generous support and funding by Marion Cilker and our sponsors, partners, friends & donors. Thank you!
The Marion Cilker Arts Really Teach Conference will pilot the Whova app for the Friday student conference at SJSU. After you register, download the Whova app to your phone or device to access all conference information and receive notifications.
The Connie L. Lurie College of Education is a learning community dedicated to equity and excellence. Equity initially addresses access and outcomes, and the College works to incorporate equity in action through policy and process. Excellence in a democratic society actualizes each student's unique potential as an individual and as a member of a diverse community. Excellence involves knowledge and skills with a commitment to lifelong curiosity, imagination and learning. The result is the College's commitment to the preparation of educators, including teachers, administrators, counselors and service providers who have the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and ethics that ensure equity and excellence for all students in a culturally diverse, technologically complex, global community.
