In the State College Area School District, we believe in the importance of opening our eyes, ears, and minds to other people, cultures, ideas, and ways of life. The teachers in the World Languages Department strive to help make the world seem a little smaller for our students by learning languages through discovering and exploring, investigating and learning, and comparing and reflecting - all with the goal of effectively communicating in the target language and culture.
We offer six languages in our high school: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish, with opportunities to study at advanced levels and participate in advanced assessments in five of those languages. In every level of every language, there are opportunities to participate and engage both in the classroom and beyond.
If you are wondering if studying another language is the right choice for you, please take a look at this article which explains the importance of studying other languages. Studies throughout the years have demonstrated the benefits of language learning, which are numerous, cross-curricular and far-reaching. We look forward to seeing you in our classes and learning with you!
"Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning
another way to think about things."
