Boxes and Bullets: Writing Essays and Arguments
Students will:
learn essay structure.
plan out an essay with a strong claim and support and use evidence (quotes, stories, research, etc) to back each support.
write a variety of essays.
Literary Essay
Students will:
write essays about character based ideas about texts.
write essays about theme based ideas about texts.
write essays comparing/contrasting ideas about texts.
Poetry
Students will:
write a variety of poems (poetry anthology), using a variety of poetic devices.
Discipline-Based Writing
Students will:
work together to think about the smaller, specific aspects of a subtopic they might want to write about.
learn that research and note-taking are ways of asking and answering questions, growing ideas, and making connections.
build on what they already know about how nonfiction writing goes, selecting an organizational structure that best matches their topic.
learn a variety of the ways that science writers convey information and ideas to best engage readers.
