Dear Families,

I am excited about the start of the new school year. I look forward to seeing you at Open House. Until then, here is some important information to help you, and your child adjust to the new school year.

The first day of school will be an exciting time for all of us! The school doors will open at 8:35 a.m. Your child can walk directly to our classroom. School faculty will be greeting students as they exit the buses and walk down the halls.  It's normal for some students to feel apprehensive and nervous, but please know that even if there are a few tears they quickly dissipate as soon as the day starts.

First graders enjoy a snack, even on the first day of school. Please send in a healthy snack with your child each morning. Snacks should be nut free as our classroom has been designated a nut free area.  The children should also bring in a reusable water bottle as we no longer have traditional water fountains, only water bottle filling stations.

Please send in one change of clothing (socks and underwear included) in a ziploc bag. The children will also need an art smock (large shirt or large t-shirt works best). In addition, please send in a zippered pencil pouch/case containing: 1 $1 bill, 4 quarters, 15 dimes, 15 nickels, and 20 pennies. Below is a sample of a pencil pouch case. We have found that envelopes and ziplock bags are not sturdy enough. We will be using the money on the first day of school.

Furthermore, please make sure your child is wearing sneakers on P.E. days. Due to the six-day schedule P.E. will not always be on the same day.  You can always leave an old pair of sneakers in school for P.E. days. As soon as we have our schedule, we will send home a copy.

Before the first day of school, please engage your child in a conversation about all of the activities you have done this summer. Your student should bring in an artifact (a photograph, special shell, ticket, etc…) that reminds them of their favorite summer experience. They will share this artifact with the class on the first day of school. Also, please make sure your student knows how they will be getting home, especially on the first day of school.

If you need to get in touch, you can contact me via email at abryant@scarsdaleschools.org.  I am so excited to meet everyone!  I will be waiting in Room 129c, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Love,

Mrs. Bryant
