Data preparation posed its own set of challenges, requiring solutions to ensure accuracy and coherence in analysis. One such hurdle arose from the absence of regional distinctions within the dataset, prompting the need to devise an alternative method for assigning continent details to each country. Given the sheer volume of data—comprising thousands of rows—a manual approach proved impractical. Through research and exploration, I was able to find a solution leveraging Tableau's relationship functionality, enabling integration between disparate datasets. By establishing connections based on the common field of country name, I was able to set regional categorization to the country fields.
Another challenge was the presence of numerous null values, compounded by inconsistencies in country titles—for e.g. Antarctica in dataset 1 was named as Antarctica (the territory South of 60 deg S), which Tableau failed to establish correct relationship. Methodically sifting through the dataset, I was able to rectify these discrepancies, ensuring uniformity in the dataset. By overcoming these challenges I was able to create the visualizations.
