Dirty Laundry draws its inspiration from personal experience. I worked on this project during a playwriting independent study with my mentor Michele Rittenhouse. For this project I was tasked with creating a story based on a situation from my personal life experience, or the experience of someone close to me. I started right away by digging through old childhood photos, and listening to music I remembered hearing as a child. Stanislavski once said, "acting is reacting"; the actor responds in real time to their circumstances as if it were for the first time. This technique that I learned as an actor, is also something that I have applied to my writing process. I listened to that music as if for the first time, allowing myself to feel the lyricism, the rhythm flow through me. It was the song "Dirty Laundry" by Kelly Rowland that offered me the idea for a tentative title.
