The “LoveWins” hashtag originated from the Human Rights Campaign after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage nationally in 2015. The Youtube video above was released by the Human Rights Campaign after the court decision and officially sparked the rise of the "LoveWins" hashtag. The hashtag was initially used in celebration and support of this severely marginalized community’s small success. Though there were, and still are many more hurdles to overcome until equality is reached, this hashtag instilled hope into the community and its supporters. In 2015 there was an explosion of posts utilizing the “LoveWins” hashtag, and it is still being used today by allies and members of the community alike. The hashtag has been most prevalent on Twitter and Instagram. The “LoveWins” hashtag strengthens the LGBTQ+ community online by providing hope to those within the community, providing the community with a space to post freely and interact with one another, and extending their message beyond the community to create allies.
