Hamsters should be given a mixture of seeds, crushed oats, flaked maize, sunflower, locust beans, peanuts, etc. with some hard dry biscuits. When introducing hamsters to new foods it is important to only introduce them one at a time as introducing too many can cause tummy upsets. A Grain and Seed mix should make up most of their diet with 1-2 tsp per hamster per day. Fresh foods like vegetables and herbs can be fed daily, but fruit should only be fed as an occasional treat because of high sugar content. Hamsters should not be fed any citrus in their diet. It can also be supplemented with protein, either sourced from pants like peas and soy flakes or dried insects like mealworms or silkworms. They should also be fed healthy fats made up of chopped nuts, healthy fats can be found in sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, walnuts, etc.
On average it could cost around $25-$30 per month to feed a hamster
