SM Media offers students the opportunity to learn skills in digital arts, video production, and print production while being exposed to industry-standard technology and state-of-the-art digital tools. Our program encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration through our three production teams while offering students certification programs and SBCC dual enrollment classes.
Many of our programs offer Dual Enrollment credit with Santa Barbara City College (pending). This credit is provided completely free as long as the student passes the class offered and registers during the window provided by the teacher.

Student Leaders
Students in this pathway have opportunities to be leaders. All publications are open forums and are student-run. Student leaders attend trainings and conferences and are essential in running the publications. Decision-making, relationship management, team bonding, communication, and more are a direct result of this group of leaders. Students demonstrate their interest in being leaders by actively participating in all of the opportunities provided and then applying to be a part of the team. Students are then interviewed and chosen to be editors or producers.

Digital Arts~ Video Production
I have been teaching art and media arts for 25 years and this is my 10th in the Santa Barbara School District. Over the years I have taught photography, video production, yearbook, digital art and several fine art classes. I have a BA in Graphic Design/Studio Art and a BA in Video Production/Telecommunication from Michigan State University. This is a very exciting time for media art at San Marcos as we launch this new pathway and we are committed to putting the newest technology into our students hands.

Yearbook Production ~ Newspaper Production
I am in my 15th year teaching media and journalism at San Marcos High School. I have a B.A. in Political Science and an M.Ed from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I have received my certification in journalism education from the Journalism Education Association. I love teaching students design, photography, and news literacy. I advise the King's Page (school newspaper) and the Crown & Sceptre (school yearbook), and I enjoy helping students create and execute these publications. My students leave my classroom with real-world experience in publication design, news reporting, photography, and leadership.
