Royals Volleyball Coaching Philosophy
Objective: We, as a coaching staff, value our student/athletes and we will work hard to make each individual player better than they think they can be. We value a hard work ethic and a dedication to the sport of volleyball that we are very passionate about. We hope that this passion is passed on to our athletes as they enjoy volleyball (not just in high school), but as a life long sport!
Beliefs: our belief is that each player in this program is capable of achieving great things. There are motivational differences at all three levels. Some players are happy to be a part of a team, some are driven to earn a varsity spot, some are very talented and yearn to achieve not only a starting spot but further recognition, and a few would like to continue this sport in college and beyond. As coaches, we all want to have a winning program and play for league and state championships. Our primary goal is to develop our young athletes mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Our passion and energy will facilitate the “fun” that we all hope to have and winning will take care of itself if everyone works towards the same goals. “Athletes are first.....and Winning is second!”
Values: Our program is known to be a “class act” in the league. We greet our opposing team with a strong handshake and a smile. Our language, both on and off the court, is clean with no vulgarities or cussing. I have NEVER received a red card from an official in my 32 years of coaching. We respect the officials and NEVER question a call. We will do our work and our winning on the court. This extends to our crowd, and our parents. We will respect our opponents, our team mates, our coaches....and ourselves! Character is a key!
Roles
Coaches: We will be leaders and communicators. We will be good teachers, make decisions, remain consistent, stay organized, and set good examples.
Parents: Will supply a support system for players and coaches. Russ and decisions will be respected and a positive attitude will be kept about every aspect of the team.
Players: will be a responsible member of the team. This includes following rules, talking to the coach about any questions, supporting team mates, and keeping a good attitude.
Remember....ATTITUDE IS CRITICAL “YOU POUT...YOU’RE OUT!”
Team Culture: We have enjoyed great success, because of our team and program culture. We show up dressed, ready to play, and on time each and every day. We believe that if it is important to you... you will make it happen. Late arrivals or inadequate uniform preparation will result in immediate consequences. These are spelled out in our team rules, along with academic standards and consequence.
Coach K’s Management
I have been blessed to have this job, as a coach, for many decades. What I have learned and what I continue to learn, is that relationships are the key to happiness and success. With a smile, with a lot of positive teaching, with a lot of organization, with a lot of energy, with a lot of dedication...we will have a very successful season. Our relationships with ALL of our players are for a lifetime. We know that these times together, will help form many future achievements and success. The greatest gift I have received, was former athletes returning to help coach or be a part of this program and say... “ These were the greatest times of our life....Coach!”
